Then I found -to-update-firmware-on-your-pioneer.html which suggests I need to set the audio source to off first. ("Set the audio source to "OFF" on your head unit."). This, and applying the parking break, did the trick.

Pioneer Vsx 529 Firmware Download

Also, turns out I needed the other firmware download. I had to extract file "CVJ4858-D.avh" to the root of the USB key, and that's the one that ended up working. The update took about 5 minutes, and there was a short reboot process at the beginning of the update and a very long reboot process (2-4 minutes?) after the update. Don't panic on either reboot.

HI, new to this forum and was hoping for some help/advice with an upgrade problem on my Pioneer Elite N50. I recently resurrected the player/streamer from my closet and have been enjoying the streaming functionality of the N50 in my sound system. I went to upgrade the firmware and the Pioneer site does not support the player anymore and the most recent upgrade options have been removed from their site. I would like to know if there are any legitimate sites that archive firmware/software for discontinued products? Alternatively, are there any members who have a copy of the firmware for the N50 that they could share with me. Thanks for your consideration.

Dear Cebolla, it was definitely not up to date. However, thanks to your contribution to another forum that I discovered last night, I was able to download the last firmware update from the Japanese Pioneer site. Problem solved.

The main thing is that you must use a FAT 16 or FAT 32 formatted USB stick and transfer to the USB stick's root folder the .bcd file from your computer (that has previously been extracted on your computer from the downloaded firmware .zip file). Also, the USB stick mustn't contain any other files or folders on it.

The Google translated version of the 'Notes on updates' from the Japanese Pioneer site page, that I originally linked to, make nothing of updating directly to firmware version 1.038 from a lower version (other than if the lower version is 1.020 or lower, there will be the minor inconvenience of N-50's user settings being set to their factory defaults) and therefore it would be totally normal to do do:

So the implication is that the latest firmware update will include all of the relevant changes from the previous versions, not to mention that the same webpage doesn't supply you with any firmware other than the latest version. It's quite straight forward to test - just see if some obvious in between changes mentioned in the Change log on the same webpage has occurred, eg from version 1.020 :

It turns out that this is a common problem with those units. Pioneer apparently uses low grade SD cards for their firmware in the units and they tend to get corrupted easily. However, gaining access to the hidden SD card that holds the firmware is not simple. You need to disassemble a good bit of the HU just to access it.

Cool, I like fixes like this. I think it was bad implementation for a separate SD card to hold the firmware but on the other hand it can be repaired opposed to having the firmware on the processor which would brick it.

Improved Dirac Live room correction delay times will allow users more flexible speaker placement as automatic sound field correction technology, such as that employed by Dirac Live, can correct for varying speaker distances. This firmware update will increase compensation from 20ms up to 50ms, which translates to correction delays for speakers from a further distance away (approx. 6.8 meters to nearly 17 meters).

As soon as I received it tried to burn one disc, no problem at all, it seems to be a quality media. Then I was just curious if maybe there was a new firmware for my burner, several months without checking for a new one, and I guess it, there were new firmwares for latest Pioneer burners (I think), these models: BDR-211EBK, BDR-211UBK, BDR-209EBK, BDR-209UBK (BDR-2209), BDR-209DBK, BDR-S09XLB y BDR-S09XLT

I encountered a similar problem. I got a 209 to supplement my 2209 from Pioneer. I put the 209 in my enclosure to test it before installing it internally, which was its target destination. I updated the firmware to 1.50 from 1.34. I tried burning a Verbatim BD-R SL, but at 70% into it, the write rate dropped to 0.0x and never resumed. The drive light was off but the enclosure light was flashing. Had to power off the enclosure and had a coaster. I tried a DVD+RW and the same thing happened at 97% into Verify. I installed the drive internally in case it might be the enclosure or a conflict with the enclosure and the 209. The 2209 was no problem back in January with this same enclosure. The drive works fine installed internally, it seems, so it must be either the enclosure or an incompatibility between the enclosure and the 209.

Thank you so much @dbminter, your link was very useful, I was able to extract the firmware from updater.exe using 7Zip, and later revert my burner to the previous firmware using DVRTool v1.02, and guess what . . . I have the same problem!!

Yeah, you probably just had a random fluke where one worked. Even crap media will, on occasion, succeed every once in a while. If those discs don't work on both firmware revisions, the problem is either the drive or the discs. And Ritek is a 2nd tier disc manufacturer. And you should never go for Ritek for double layer media. Verbatim, pretty much, makes the only good DVD+R DL discs, so they probably make the only good BD DL media. I only use their BD-RE DL and sometimes TDK made Verbatim's BD-RE DL, which I've also used successfully.

I recommend reflashing that drive back to 1.50. There was a bork in the firmware with 1.34 involving Ritek 8x DVD+RW discs not writing correctly, always failing Verify, that Pioneer fixed with 1.50. So, who knows what else they fixed? Of course, who knows what else they might have broke?! I wrote to Pioneer nearly 2 years ago about that DVD+RW issue, but never expected anymore firmware updates to the drive after almost 2 years. Color me surprised when it came out on the 2nd of March!

Oh my cock! Shame on me!, the problem was not the firmware nor the Primeon discs, just the blu-ray I was trying to burn, it was not properly unprotected, despite BDinfo did not indicate nothing wrong, even playing the movie.

Problems with writes that don't start or fail to complete are hardware related, generally. Either your drive needs replacing, it has a conflict with the media you're trying to burn to, or, in rare cases, some kind of software conflict is preventing the writing to media. However, it's not unusual for firmware updates to bork writing to particular media. There was the 1.33 to 1.34 bork I mentioned fixed by 1.50.

I'd try Verbatim BD-R DL media and see if that works. If it does, then you know the issue is with Primeon discs. If Verbatim also fails, you have to consider the drive being the problem. If it's the drive, it may need replacing, there may be a bork in the latest firmware, or a software conflict going on.

Yes, with Pioneer firmware, what you describe is not unprecedented. Two discs with the same Disc ID should be the same, but apparently aren't. Years ago, Verbatim DVD+R DL did the same thing on Pioneer burners. Verbatim's branded and inkjet printable DVD+R DL had the SAME DID, but the inkjet printable discs would ALWAYS fail Verify! The branded ones would always burn correctly. Pioneer eventually fixed this in a future firmware revision. 17dc91bb1f
