Ping ID

Can I use my Ping ID on multiple devices?

Answer: No, the Ping ID is limited to one device. You may need to create separate Ping IDs for each device and share them with your friends as suitable. This allows improved privacy protection as the sender is aware of which device their messages are getting delivered, and the receiver knows which devices their friends can send messages.

Is my Ping ID associated with any of my personal data?

Answer: No. Your Ping ID is an independent identification used within the app. Ping IM doesn’t require phone numbers, email addresses or social profiles for the registration. This ensures not only your personal identifications aren’t exposed when you make connections, but they aren’t used within Ping IM in the first place.

Messaging

What are self destructing messages?

Answer: Your messages are automatically cleaned up and doesn’t leave any traces either in your mobile phone app or within the Ping IM Cloud.

When does my messages get self-destructed?

Answer: Ping IM messages have a very short life span. The messages you sent will get deleted from the Ping IM Cloud when the receiver has seen the message and then you have viewed the sent message once again. This allows messages to be deleted as soon as they are fully consumed while you don’t face the problem of forgetting the context when your contact replies back to you.

Any message that have been deleted from the Ping IM Cloud as described above will still be visible in the chat screen until you navigate back or restart the application.

Hidden Contacts

Can I re-use the same passcode for multiple hidden contacts?

Answer: No. The passcode should be unique for the contact.

Can Ping IM help me to recover a forgotten passcode?

Answer: Sorry, Ping IM is not able to recover a forgotten passcode for you. It is important to memorize or securely store passcodes when you hide contacts.

What can I do if my passcode is already forgotten?

Answer: The only option for you to re-establish the connection between you and your friend in Ping IM is to send a new friend request to him/her. The moment your friend request is sent, your connection between you and your friend will get temporary deleted and a friend request will appear on their device. Your friend has to accept this request to re-establish the connection. Once approved, your friend will appear again on your contact list. You may want to hide them again with a new passcode if necessary.
