Pierre Mortemousque's roots are deeply entrenched in Tonneins, a serene village in southern France known for its vibrant culture and close-knit community. His upbringing there imbued him with a strong sense of heritage and identity. At eighteen, he took an adventurous leap across the Atlantic to the United States as a foreign exchange student. This experience would expand his horizons and profoundly shape his future. He attended Parrott Academy in North Carolina, where he quickly adapted to and embraced American culture, significantly improving his English language skills.  


Upon completing his year as an exchange student, Pierre pursued higher education at Elon University in North Carolina. He majored in Business Administration, chose Economics as his minor, and actively participated on the university soccer team. His time at Elon was formative, helping him to develop crucial leadership and teamwork skills. He graduated in 1989, fully equipped to navigate the complexities of the business world.


Launching into the World of International Commerce


After college, Pierre returned to France to embark on his professional journey. He joined Sofrace, a company with a strong focus on expanding its sales operations into the Middle East. From 1989 to 1992, he traveled extensively across the Emirates, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia, enabling him to build a robust network and understand diverse business environments and international market strategies.


Transitioning Careers: From Sales to Education


1992 was a year of significant change for Pierre as he married Kelly and relocated to Lynchburg, Virginia. He made a bold career shift from the dynamic world of international sales to the more stable and enriching education environment. He secured a position at Virginia Episcopal School, where he taught French and Spanish and coached soccer until 1996. His tenure as a teacher allowed him to share his love for languages and his extensive international experience, enriching the lives of his students.


Stepping into the Footwear Industry


The corporate world drew Pierre back in 1996 when he joined the Consolidated Shoe Company in Lynchburg. Over the next thirteen years, he became Vice President of Tradewinds Europe. His extensive duties included managing sales, designing footwear, and overseeing sourcing strategies. This period was instrumental in shaping his understanding of the retail and manufacturing aspects of the footwear industry.


Entrepreneurial Venture: Founding Pierre Inc.


In 2009, leveraging his rich background in footwear design and retail operations, he founded Pierre Inc., based in Lynchburg, Virginia. The company was dedicated to creating affordable, stylish footwear for major U.S. retailers, focusing on women's and children's shoes within off-price and branded channels. Pierre's leadership was crucial in expanding the company's reach, including setting up operations in China to efficiently manage production and quality control.
