Pied-a-Mer was our houseboat from 2007 to 2019. "Pied-à-mer" (pronounced PYED-a-mehr) is French for "foot on the sea". For most of that time it was our home away from home—we spent a couple of days a week aboard the boat, year round. For 20 months in 2015 and 2016 it was our only home when we weren't traveling. This page was written in 2018 when we were still living there.

The Pied-a-Mer is a 40' Mike Kelly design, custom built for the original owner. We bought it in 2007, when it was less than a year old. We keep it at China Harbor Marina on Lake Union in Seattle.
We don't take the Pied-a-Mer out very often, but when we do it's a lot of fun. Like most recreational boats, she spends most of her time tied up at the dock. Go to the Cruise page for more about one outing we had on Lake Union.
We used to keep our kayak next to the Pied-a-Mer. The grandkids liked to bring along a fishing net to scoop up litter—especially after the big 4th of July fireworks display.
We enjoy entertaining friends aboard the Pied-a-Mer so they can get a taste of what it's like to live on the water.
It's fun to watch the Tuesday evening sailboat races from our upper deck.
There are 30 boats of every description in our marina, many of them liveaboards. It's a wonderful community. We love our neighbors!
