Writing a song about this awesome painting has been something the band was doing even before Miseriae Mundi. It only finalised after Linn joined the band and off course we had to make it the title track to the EP on which it stands.
The Nightmare was drawn by Henry Fuseli.
The song can be listened to via the following channels:
A haunted memory, lifeless and inanimate.
Deep sleep visions staring into the depths of light and shades
Another human turned down, by the hand of a young woman.
his last attempt, crushed his heart without repent.
There she lies, thrown across the bed.
Head hanging down, covered by her hair.
And on her chest an incubus, nestling between exposed breasts.
Woman! You will be mine!
If not in flesh, then so in mind!
No running from me, there is no end
No way out, so don’t pretend,
From now on we are entwined.
Finding his way through the cracks in her mind
His heart stolen, turned to hatred and revenge.
Fusing with his own, her body and soul
Sharing life, breath and strength.
One side oppressed invoking death.
Tender cries will be met, with bloodshot staring eyes.
Her blushing head back, in the pillow it falls
Woman! You will be mine!
If not in flesh, then so in mind!
No running from me, there is no end
No way out, so don’t pretend,
From now on we are entwined.
Looking down from the painting on the wall,
trapped inside the frame of waking dreams.
Seeing her own body, paralyzed and with dread,
raped by the incubus, his erotic hunger fed.
Scream in vain of pain while she crawls into the corners of her existence.
In this place where nightmares give power and form
Soon her skipping heart
pulse drowns in her rest.
