Yelena Gerovich

I teach all levels from beginners to advanced piano competition winners and prepare students to pass the most prestigious technical and theory tests, including the Carnegie Hall/Royal Conservatory Achievement Program, British Conservatory Exam, Musicianship Achievement Program/Theory Exam and Performance Audition. My Moscow Conservatory and University of Pedagogy education with over 30 years of piano and music theory teaching experience allows me to offer a unique, effective, and fun way of teaching piano to students of all ages.

I started as an instructor and score editor at the Moscow School for the Performing Arts, and have been teaching piano in the United Sates for over 25 years. I offer my piano students the chance to play all types and styles of music, ranging from classical to jazz to modern and everything in between. In addition to encouraging technical proficiency, I believe it's important for students of any level to understand the music they are playing, not simply play pieces by rote, and strive to give my piano students a good understanding and knowledge of music theory.

I currently offer private piano lessons at my studio in Woodbridge, Connecticut and teach piano at the Neighborhood Music School in New Haven, one of the most prestigious music schools in Connecticut. I am also President of the National Music Teacher's Association New Haven Chapter, and a member of the Hartford Chapter. This allows my piano students to participate in a large selection of MTNA sponsored competitions and concerts throughout the year. MTNA events happen throughout the state of Connecticut, including Woodbridge, Orange, Bethany, Milford, Hamden, New Haven, Seymour, North Haven, and more. For the last 12 years, I have also been the chairperson of the NMTA sponsored piano tape audition competition, which my students frequently participate in and win.

I have always believed that it is possible for everyone to enjoy learning music and playing piano, and I challenge myself to ensure my students can express themselves through music and to give them the skills and abilities to do this to the fullest. My goal is to help my students reach a level of enjoyment and knowledge that will keep them involved with music for a lifetime.
