Physiotherapy over the years is very dynamic and evolving profession and since its inception the skill set of physiotherapists is kept on enhancing with globalization and need of evidence base practice. Physiotherapy curriculums are categorized by a blend of theory, skills training and learning in practice and it is not wrong to mention as other professional courses adapted modern methods of teaching which are widely used in their educational process result in higher learning efficiency these methods are not been fully embraced by our profession. These Modern methods utilized the method of active learning and e learning to enhance the effectiveness in classroom teaching and also reduced the monotonicity in the classroom.
Since Bonwell and Eison’s influential work (1991), “active learning” has been a catchword in the teaching and learning. According to (Zakrajsek, 2016) there is no such thing as “passive learning.”. A more suitable term might be “interactive learning,” which incorporates all approaches of focused student engagement while interacting with others (instructor or peers) and themselves.
Physiotherapy educators must engaged in learning some of the teaching pedagogy by doing that they will able to understand the language of education which is certainly is a need specially in a post pandemic era where digital learning is the only alternative and use of such e platforms to the maximum in physiotherapy education is also one of the agenda in the Physiotherapy institutes.
Modern day education categorized the classroom learning in to mainly four different situations which are mention below.
1. Interactive Learning Situation : PBL Tutorial, Flipped Classroom
2. Collective Learning Situation : Field Work, Project Based earning
3. Independent Learning Situation: Guided Self Study,Reserch Project
4. Co-operative Learning Situation: Group Work
Apart of these 21st century learning strategies we as a educators should also work on learning some of the Learning management system like Canvas,
Moodle, Chamilo, blackboard etc.
Using interactive techniques and strategies, the students become more engaged in learning; retain more information, thus becoming more satisfied.
