FIND THE PREVALENCE OF THROWER’S ELBOW IN RECREATIONAL CRICKET PLAYERS - A CROSS-SECTIONAL SURVEY.

Background:
Overhead throwing motion creates significant valgus and extension movement
at the elbow which results in unique injury patterns of the elbow. These are
seen in throwing athlete known as thrower’s elbow”.
Abnormal forces which are predominantly seen in recreational players because of lack of
knowledge about proper tactics utilized in the game, may result in different injury patterns of the
elbow including ulnar neuritis, medial collateral ligament injuries, flexor-pronator mass strains,
olecranon stress fracture, and posteromedial impingement.
Aim:
The aim is to record the prevalence of throwers elbow in recreational cricket players and to
record the prevalence of different injury patterns in throwers elbow in recreational cricket
players.
Procedure:
Patients aged between 19 to 30 years of age were approached, consent was taken, the purpose
and procedure of the study were explained to them and demographic data were recorded. The
study was conducted on cricket grounds on recreational cricket players and a special test was
performed to elicit the results.
Results:
According to a study, 4 among 20 recreational cricket players were found to have throwers
elbow which included 3 players with a medial collateral ligament injury and 1 with ulnar
neuritis.
Conclusion:
Based on the results of the study, the prevalence of Thrower’s elbow is common among recreational cricket players and is unidentified.
