Introduction
Body mass index(BMI) is the unit used to measure the weight distribution in the human
body and to categories each individuals as underweight, over weight and obese ,so excess of body
weight is usually define by measuring BMI Endurance is the ability to perform low intensity repetitive activities.
By checking the calf muscle endurance we can check the overall endurance of an individuals
,.pervious studies reported that the people with high BMI have decreased aerobic capacity.
The aim of the study is to determine the relationship between the BMI and calf muscle endurance
among college students.
Method
Using an observation study design 30 healthy adults were selected based on the selection
criteria aged between 18 to 25 years , the height was measured in cm using an wall mounted
height scale and weight in KG using an weighing scale,BMI is calculated by using reference of
height and weight and muscle endurance in duration(sec). The person is instructed to stand on the
toes for as long as possible and the duration is measured in seconds. The mean value of calf
muscle and BMI was calculated, the relationship between BMI and calf muscle endurance was
calculated using karl pearson correlation coefficient.
Results
The mean value of BMI is 20.39 ranging between minimum of 16 to maximum of 28.
The mean value of endurance is 180.55 sec ranging between 37 seconds to 450 seconds and the
karlpearson coorelation and coefficience is -0.243. Based on data analysis there is negative correlation between BMI and calf muscle endurance.
Conclusion
Our study resulted that there is negative coorelationship between BMI and calf muscle endurance
thus increasing in the BMI causes decrease in the calf muscle endurance.so we suggest an
individuals with increase in BMI to follow an strict diet plan and regular exercises.
