OBJECTIVE- To review the effects of Taping combined with exercises in patients with
patellofemoral pain syndrome (PFPS).
DESIGN- A Clinical Review Done On 22 Articles Out which 10 article were included on the
different taping technique along with exercises in patients with patellofemoral pain syndrome.
RESULT- The clinical review suggests that treating the PFPS patients with McConnell taping
combined with VMO strengthening exercises showed 60% improvement in NPRS, 86.4% in
LEFI, and also improved ROM of knee flexion. M-taping showed 2% better muscle activity of
vastus medialis than other treatment methods and vastus lateralis had not significant difference
in muscle activity with taping. Kinesio taping applied in different methods with strengthening
showed significant improvement in pain score, peak torque of the quadriceps muscle, and also
proprioception of the knee.
CONCLUSION- Taping combined with strengthening of VMO, VL, VM with proprioceptive
training in patients with PFPS showed to improvement in pain score, flexibility, patellar
stability, proprioception of knee, patellar alignment. M taping is effective for patellar alignment
and K-taping was effective in VMO muscle weakness and to relive muscle tension of VL.
Different method of taping like M-taping, K-taping (Y, I, O methods of K-tape), sham-taping,
athletic taping all showed significant improvement before and after treatment but there was no
significant difference in parameters between the different methods of taping.
