PhD. Luis Colmenarez

I am a Postdoctoral Researcher at RWTH Aachen University and Forschungszentrum Jülich in the group of Markus Müller. I work at the intersection on quantum error correction (QEC) and fault-tolerant quantum computation. Before I did my PhD in the Max Planck for the Physics of Complex Systems (MPI-PKS), Dresden, Germany. I am also alumni of the Diploma Programme in Condensed Matter and Statistical Physics in the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP). Prior I did my bachelor in my home country Venezuela in the University of Carabobo and the Venezuelan Institute for Scientific Research.

Quantum Error Correction: theory

I am deeply interested on the theoretical foundations of quantum error correction. I study the structure and performance of quantum codes under realistic noise models. This includes analyzing threshold behavior and decoding strategies from a rigorous perspective. A key part of my work involves developing analytical tools and numerical methods to characterize the resilience of quantum information against various error processes with a focus on the interplay between quantum many-body physics and error correction.

Quantum Error Correction: practice

My work addresses the practical implementation of quantum error correction. I focus on tailoring quantum codes and noise models to hardware constraints, optimizing decoding strategies, and benchmarking performance under realistic errors. My goal is to bridge the gap between theoretical code design and experimentally viable, fault-tolerant quantum computing.

Quantum and Classical Computation

I develop and apply numerical methods to tackle problems in quantum computing and quantum error correction. This includes tensor network techniques, machine learning, and Monte Carlo simulations to evaluate code performance, noise thresholds, and decoder behavior. These tools enable the study of large code distances, quantum circuit discovery, and complex quantum dynamics beyond analytical reach.

Many-Body Physics and Quantum Information

I am interested in the interplay between many-body physics and quantum information theory, particularly in how quantum information can be protected and processed within complex interacting systems. Understanding quantum transport, entanglement dynamics, and non-equilibrium behavior is essential to this endeavor.
