WELCOME TO PHYSICAL EDUCATION!

Congrats, Jump Rope Ninjas!

In February, in honor of heart health month, we got our cardiovascular system pumping with lots of jump rope practice. These students challenged themselves to jump as many times as they could and received "belts" for their achievement. Congratulations!

Hello from the Gym!

My name is Stephanie Adamow, and I am your child's Physical Education teacher. I am very excited to begin my third year at Our Lady of Good Counsel! A little bit about me: I have earned a BA in Communication from La Salle University. I am a certified personal trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine as well as a certified Youth Exercise Specialist (also through NASM).

Throughout the year, the activities in Physical Education focus on the National Standards. Please see image at left and "What I Learn in PE Class" below. As a Catholic school, the curriculum also follows the Archdiocese of Philadelphia's Physical Education Guidelines.

The goal is for each student to become physically literate and confident in movement activities as well as understand the importance of healthy nutrition.

We will develop these skills using critical thinking, working individually and cooperatively, and enforcing kindness.  While we only meet once a week, I hope to instill in the students a love of activity that they can carry with them as they grow. Strengthening the health and wellness of the body and mind is critical for young children so they mature into mindful adults.

Physical literacy is the ability to move with competence and confidence in a wide variety of physical activities in multiple environments that benefit the healthy development of the whole person.

Physical Education Curriculum

As mentioned above, OLGC's Physical Education curriculum follows the Archdiocese of Philadelphia's Physical Education Guidelines. Each month, we will have a unit focus that targets different skills, including throwing/catching, kicking, ball handling, striking, dance, cooperation and more. There will also be a health focus monthly, targeting a body system or nutrition.

Each class begins with warm-up exercises, followed by games emphasizing a particular skill/movement. Class ends with a cool-down of stretching and breathing exercises.

Please click on the tabs at the top of the page to see what your child is accomplishing this month. Also, check this page on snow days and virtual days for fun activities to do at home!

Thank you for stopping by the gym!
