The roles and responsibilities of student librarians
Student librarians have three primary functions in my library.
1. They help at the circulation desk
2. They are each responsible for shelving and maintaining a section in the library
3. They help process new materials and do any other tasks I need help with
Most of the day, I'm the sole adult supervisor in the library, so my student librarians are invaluable for running errands that I can't leave the library to do during the class period. They also free me from feeling chained to the desk, so I'm able to circulate among students using the library and am more available to help where needed.
