Photo Tagger (“the App”) is provided by Joshua Jones (“we,” “us,” or “our”). This Privacy Policy explains how Photo Tagger processes photographs, face data, account information, advertising data, and other information.
Photo Tagger helps users organize photographs, apply tags, identify similar faces, create people-based groupings, and optionally back up their library to their own Google Drive account.
Photo and face analysis is performed on the user’s device. Photo Tagger does not upload photographs or face data to our servers for facial analysis.
Creating an account is optional for basic use of the App. Users may sign in using Google or Sign in with Apple to access account-related functionality.
When the user grants photo-library permission or imports photographs, Photo Tagger may process:
Photographs selected or made available by the user
File names, file paths, dates, sizes, and other file information
Tags, favorites, notes, albums, and organizational information created by the user
Locally generated image labels and similarity information
Private Vault status and other library settings
This information is used only to provide the App’s photo-importing, organization, search, tagging, duplicate-detection, backup, restore, and related features.
Imported photographs and associated library information are stored locally on the user’s device unless the user chooses to use Google Drive backup.
Photo Tagger may process the following face data from photographs selected or imported by the user:
Whether a face appears in a photograph
The location and dimensions of a detected face within a photograph
Cropped face thumbnails stored locally for display within the App
Facial feature representations, sometimes called facial embeddings or numerical face profiles
Similarity measurements used to suggest that faces may depict the same person
Person names or tags assigned by the user
Confirmed face matches, rejected matches, learned examples, and face-scanning status
Limited face characteristics supplied by the on-device detector, such as smiling probability and eye-open probability
Face data is used only to:
Detect faces in the user’s photographs
Group visually similar faces
Suggest photographs that may contain a person selected by the user
Allow users to review, accept, or reject suggested matches
Display people-based photo organization features
Improve future matching within that user’s local library
Back up and restore the user’s Photo Tagger library when the user expressly chooses Google Drive backup
Photo Tagger does not use face data to determine identity outside the user’s own photo library. We do not use it for advertising, marketing, surveillance, eligibility decisions, authentication, or tracking users across apps or websites.
Face detection, facial embedding generation, and face matching are performed on the user’s device. Local face data is stored within Photo Tagger’s application storage on that device.
Photo Tagger does not send face data to us or to a developer-operated facial-analysis server.
If the user voluntarily enables or runs Google Drive backup, the App uploads backup data to that user’s own Google Drive account. That backup may include:
Photographs
Face locations and dimensions
Person tags and face assignments
Facial embeddings and averaged face profiles
Learned face examples
Rejected face matches
Face scan and matching state
Google processes this information only as necessary to provide Google Drive storage and related services under Google’s applicable terms and privacy policy. PhotoTagger uses access limited to files it creates or opens for this functionality.
We do not sell, rent, license, or share face data with advertisers, data brokers, or unrelated third parties.
Face data is disclosed to Google only when the user chooses Google Drive backup, in which case the information is stored in the user’s own Google Drive account. On-device face detection may use Google ML Kit components, but photographs and face data are processed locally for this feature and are not uploaded to us for analysis.
Face data stored locally is retained until one of the following occurs:
The user deletes the applicable photograph or person data within Photo Tagger
The user clears face or people data using the App’s data-management controls
The user deletes Photo Tagger’s application data
The user uninstalls the App
Face information included in a Google Drive backup is retained in the user’s Google Drive until the user deletes the applicable Photo Tagger backup files from Google Drive. Deleting local App data or deleting a Photo Tagger sign-in account does not automatically delete files previously stored in the user’s Google Drive.
We do not independently retain a copy of face data on our servers.
Users may sign in through Google or Sign in with Apple. When a user signs in, Photo Tagger and its authentication provider may process:
An authentication-provider identifier
Email address, including a private relay address supplied by Apple
Display name, when supplied
Authentication tokens and account status
Authentication is provided through Firebase Authentication and the selected sign-in provider. Account information is used to authenticate the user and provide account-related functionality.
A signed-in user can initiate permanent account deletion within the App by opening:
Settings → Account & Premium → Delete account
Deleting an account permanently deletes the Photo Tagger authentication account. Photographs and other information stored only on the device remain on the device unless separately deleted by the user.
Files previously backed up to the user’s Google Drive also remain in Google Drive until the user deletes them there.
Deleting an account does not cancel or refund an App Store or Google Play purchase. Premium is offered as a one-time purchase rather than an automatically renewing subscription.
Apple requires apps supporting account creation to make account deletion available within the app. Apple account-deletion guidance
Google Drive backup is optional and occurs only after the user connects a Google account and requests or enables backup.
Photo Tagger may upload the user’s photographs, tags, library metadata, face data described above, app settings, and other information needed to restore the Photo Tagger library.
Backup information is stored in the user’s own Google Drive account. Users can disconnect Google Drive through the App and can delete Photo Tagger backup files through Google Drive.
Google’s handling of information is described in the Google Privacy Policy.
The free version of Photo Tagger uses Google AdMob to display and measure advertisements. Depending on the user’s region, permissions, device settings, and advertising choices, Google and its advertising partners may process:
Device or advertising identifiers
IP address
Approximate location derived from an IP address
Advertising interactions
Device information
App usage and diagnostic information
Photo Tagger does not provide photographs, face data, person tags, or facial embeddings to AdMob.
Users can limit advertising personalization through their device settings and any consent choices presented in the App. Google explains its advertising practices in Google’s advertising policies.
Premium users do not receive advertising within Photo Tagger.
Premium purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store or by Google through Google Play, depending on the platform. We do not directly receive or store complete payment-card information.
Apple or Google may provide purchase status, product information, transaction identifiers, and entitlement information needed to complete or restore a purchase.
We do not intentionally operate a separate behavioral analytics service. Advertising, authentication, app-store, operating-system, or platform providers may process diagnostic or usage information under their own policies.
If a user contacts us for support, we receive the email address, message, attachments, and any diagnostic information the user voluntarily provides.
Users should review diagnostic information before sending it because it may describe their library, scan status, tags, or matching results.
We do not sell personal information or face data.
Information may be processed by the following service providers only as needed to provide their respective services:
Google Firebase Authentication for account authentication
Google Sign-In and Google Drive for optional sign-in, backup, and restore
Sign in with Apple for optional authentication
Google AdMob and its advertising partners for advertising and measurement
Apple App Store or Google Play for purchase processing and restoration
We require service providers to handle information under their applicable privacy and security obligations.
We may also disclose information if required by law, legal process, or a valid governmental request, or when reasonably necessary to protect users, our rights, or the security of the App.
We use reasonable administrative and technical measures designed to protect information. However, no device, transmission method, or electronic storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
Users are responsible for maintaining the security of their device, Apple or Google account, and Google Drive account.
Users may:
Decline photo-library access
Select which photographs to import, where supported by the operating system
Delete photographs, tags, face assignments, or face-learning information within the App
Clear face or people data through the App’s data-management settings
Choose whether to use Google Drive backup
Disconnect Google Drive
Delete Photo Tagger backup files directly from Google Drive
Sign out of their account
Permanently delete their Photo Tagger account within the App
Limit advertising tracking or personalization through device settings
Contact us regarding privacy questions or information voluntarily sent to us
Withdrawing permission may prevent the associated feature from functioning.
Photo Tagger is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, contact us so we can investigate and delete information when appropriate.
Third-party providers may process information in countries other than the user’s country of residence. Their processing is governed by their privacy policies and applicable legal safeguards.
We may update this Privacy Policy when Photo Tagger’s features or data practices change. We will publish the updated policy at this location and revise the effective date.
