Philosophy of Notation 2019

Operational Iconicity and Observational Advantages in Diagrams

This event is supported by UK Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council under the project The Applied Semiotics of Visual Modelling (EP/R043949/1).

The Second International Workshop on the Philosophy of Notation will take place on the 23rd and 24th of May 2019 at the Department of Philosophy and Communication, UniversitĂ  of Bologna, Italy.

The workshop programme is now available.

The theme of the workshop is operational iconicity and observational advantages. These properties of logical notations seem to be inextricably linked and have been closely studied but are still not fully understood. The Call for Papers provides the background and research questions. If you are interested in making a contribution, see the instructions for authors.

As well as inviting regular contributions to the workshop we have assembled an exciting list of guest speakers who have advanced our understanding of these matters in recent years.

We look forward to welcoming you to Bologna in May 2019. Please contact the organisers using the links below if you have any questions.

The Co-chairs:

Jim Burton, CSIUS, University of Brighton

Francesco Bellucci, Universita di Bologna
