With convenient classes at West Philly's historic Calvary Center at 48th St & Baltimore Ave, Philadelphia Korean Jujitsu teaches martial arts for self-defense. Our primary goal is to prepare our students to face, and hopefully avoid, a wide-range of threats to their personal safety. We offer a progressive curriculum blending strikes, kicks, throws, grappling, joint-locks, and weapons to provide our students with multiple responses across a broad range of self-defense situations. Students learn to combine different types of techniques while adjusting to the fast-changing circumstances of an altercation.
Our classes are open to all adult members of our community.
Korean Jujitsu was developed at Yongin University in the 1950s and 1960s as a blend of judo, jujitsu, hapkido, wrestling, taekwondo, and hoshinsul (self-defense techniques), and formally established as Yongmudo in 1998. Dr. Ken (Kyung Ho) Min (9th dan hapkido/yongmudo, 9th dan judo, 9th dan taekwondo) was instrumental to the development of Yongmudo in the United States with a principle of "flexibility of response," blending the most practical techniques from various martial arts to provide a comprehensive self-defense system.
