On a unnamed planet, chaos is happening. A scientist lady who’s grey with blue hair and completely black eyes is on the run and partly shown primate-looking beings are after her. She manages to reach a reinforced shelter and seal the doors to make her safe for now. She heads towards a control panel and outside the faculty a probe shoots out in space. A couple of days later, Federation Deep Space Station K-28 is shown. Inside the bridge, a communication officer is getting a signal.
<Communication officer – Sir? I’m picking up a signal of some kind.>
Through the main view-screen with magnification the distress signal probe is detected. Another officer is working on his own console to scan the probe.
<Second officer – Connecting to the probe and engaging security measures. The signal is sending coordinates which according to the star-chart leads to an unnamed planet. It is also providing information about the sender who is a Grablugar named Doctor Cacloor.>
<Officer in charge – I seem to recall hearing about the Grablugars years ago. That they were a culture of genetic engineers that the federation stayed away from.>
<Second officer – Correct, sir. They were at times a bit radical in their experiments that would go against legal restrictions of the federation and not really caring about the well-being of their test subjects who so far are not sentient beings that we know of.>
<Communication officer – Should we report this, sir?>
<Officer in charge – It is a request for help. I just hope whoever does the saving won’t have to face any “Frankenstein monsters” and this will go smoothly.>
Later, the Enterprise comes out of warp and heads towards the unnamed planet on impulse. Xon, M’ress, Doctor Cronkov and a male Rhaandarite ensign named ‘Zaand?’ from Star Trek: The Motion Picture who is new. They head towards the area which the instructions from the probe told them to go.
<Captain Decker (not seen but heard) – Captain’s log stardate { }. We received a message from Federation Deep Space Station K-28 about a probe they found with a request for help and are now heading for the unnamed planet that’s said to have a primitive native life-form that’s similar to early man. I sent M’Ress, Xon and a new recruit named Zaand, as well as Doctor Cronkov who says that he once met this Doctor Cacloor to handle the situation.>
<M’Ress (a little concern) – Are you ok, Ensign....?>
<Zaand (a little depressed) – Yes, lieutenant, I am quiet fine.>
<M’Ress (a little concern) – It’s alright to be nervous. We all been there, including Xon, despite being a Vulcan.>
<Xon (disciplined) – I will admit that I was concerned about my performance when it came to my duties.>
<Zaand (a little depressed) – It’s not that. The reason I requested to be transfer to the Enterprise is to redeem myself for doing my job poorly on Tocar and for what happened to Lieutenant Arex.>
<M’Ress (a little confused) – Tocar? So you were the Rhaandarite who was sent there to learn about their culture?>
<Zaand (a little depressed) Yes, and I failed to discover what they did to the Orculas.>
<Xon (disciplined) – Ensign Zaand. There was no way you could have known because the Tocarians chose to hide their wrong-doings and their isolation helped because no one outside of Tocar knew until now.>
<M’Ress – And besides, you’re still young and have your whole life ahead of you, in fact, how old are you?>
<Zaand – By earth years I would be 83.>
<M’Ress (a little awkward) – Ooook, defiantly old enough to be my grandsire but still willing to give some guidance if you need it.>
They see a reinforced shelter and everything is quiet. M’Ress catches a scent with her nose.
<M’Ress (serious) – We’re not alone.>
Covered in shadows brutes are seen behind the rocks. One of the Pakleds reveals himself out of nowhere and the startled Zaand shoots him with a phaser set on stun and all it does is mildly stings him and make him angry! The doors of the reinforced shelter opens and Doctor Cacloor is shown!
<Doctor Cacloor (annoyed and loud) – Get in, you simpletons!!!>
The gang quickly get in while being chased by Pakleds and barely make it as the doors luckily close on time while ending with a big bang from outside!
<Pakled (not seen but heard from behind the doors) – Ow! We are strong!>
Inside the shelter, Doctor Cronkov looks at Doctor Cacloor after everyone is safe inside.
<Doctor Cronkov (mildly shocked) – What kind of loony bin thing have you been doing here?!>
<Doctor Cacloor (a bit annoyed) – And you are?>
<Doctor Cronkov (annoyed) - Doctor Cronkov. We once met at the independent medical conference. I was the only one who would talke to you, in fact, I was also the only Tellarite there.>
<Doctor Cacloor (a bit annoyed) – You all looked like idiots to me and you expected me to tell you apart?>
<Doctor Cronkov (annoyed) - Makes one wonder if you have any friends.>
<Doctor Cacloor (a bit annoyed) – Friends are for the desperate.>
<Xon (disciplined and talking to his wrist communicator) – Enterprise? We have met with some difficulties while arriving here. Some form of creature that is unknown.>
<Captain Decker (not seen and from wrist communicator) – Do you need assistance?>
<Xon (disciplined and talking to his wrist communicator) For now we are safe inside this reinforced shelter but no doubt we will need a means to depart.>
<Doctor Cronkov (serious) – Those things outside looked like Pakleds who’s native to this planet, a primitive form of life, but one of them obvious spoke after bonking into the doors. (looks at Doctor Cacloor) Genetic enhancement I assume?>
<Doctor Cacloor (a bit annoyed) – A client commissioned my people to provide servants who can do some complex stuff while not being smart enough to question orders and they were already naturally very strong and resilient. The Pakleds seemed perfect as a starting point, but as you can see there were difficulties. They became like spoiled little children.>
<M’Ress – Well, apparently creating a race of super-idiots wasn’t a good idea.>
A pounding at the doors is heard.
<Pakled (not seen but heard from behind the door) – Let us in! Now!>
<M’Ress (mild sarcasm) – Oh’ no. They learned how to knock at the door. They’re evolving.>
Doctor Cronkov looks at the computer console.
<Doctor Cronkov – Mind if I look at your files?>
<Doctor Cacloor (a bit annoyed) – It’s not like you’re going to take no for an answer.>
Doctor Cronkov looks at Doctor Cacloor’s files.
<Doctor Cronkov (focused) – Well, you defiantly increased their intelligence so they would be.... less stupid.... but seriously, lady, you like cranked their intuition to 11. They would be like neanderthals who are able to fly ships and use phasers while not understanding how and why.>
<Xon (disciplined and concerned) – Not to mention no ability to tell the difference between right and wrong. It is as you said, they are like spoiled little children. This of course is the reason why the federation limits genetic engineering use.>
<Doctor Cacloor (a bit amused) – Oh’ because of the eugenics wars? Where the dimwitted humans wanted to create perfection and didn’t think that perfection would look down on them and try to enslave or do away with them. My fellow Grablugars and I try to create useful tools though our genetic engineer technics and of course are careful to not have our own eugenics wars, and no, you can’t use this situation to make a point because the Pakleds can get distracted when they’re hungry. All you need is a small group of trained people with big guns to take them down.>
<Doctor Cronkov – We’re not going to kill a bunch of unfortunate creatures because it’s easy, not to mention you did this to them without their permission. And speaking of hungry, are they trying to get in here because of food?>
<Doctor Cacloor (a bit annoyed) – Because of their intuition to use technology, and being overgrown toddlers, they see the equipment here as “toys” that they think will make them strong, according to them. Already they messing with my ship.>
<Pakled (not seen but heard from behind the door) – Open the door!>
<Doctor Cacloor (angry) – Be quiet, you!>
<Xon (disciplined) – I hope that ship is not warp capable.>
<Doctor Cacloor (a little annoyed) – Of course not. I used it to move around on the planet to find suitable test subjects and it’s so much easier then walking the long way. I was expecting to be picked up in a couple of days since my work was pretty much completed.>
Suddenly, M’Ress ears are picking up a humming sound coming towards them.
<M’Ress (concerned) – Guys? Something is heading towards us.>
<Zaand (curious) – Excuse me.... Doctor Cacloor.... but are the Pakleds capable of flying your ship and does it have weapons?>
<Doctor Cacloor (annoyed and a bit worried) – Yes.... to both.>
Suddenly, the reinforced shelter is greatly damaged by weapons shot from the outside in a dramatic way! Outside is Doctor Cacloor’s ship and inside the ship is a happy Pakled piloting it.
<Pakled pilot (childlike happy) – I am very strong.>
Inside the damaged shelter, the other Pakleds enter the place, but instead of attacking the others, they go for the tech, which of course surprises the others!
<Pakled (childlike happy and hugs a computer console) – Mine.>
<Xon (disciplined and determined) – I suggest we take advantage of them being distracted and leave the area.>
Doctor Cronkov is seen crawling through the distracted Pakleds and manages to catch up with the others! They’re now outside and the Pakled pilot sees them! Doctor Cacloor’s ship goes after them! The gang aims their phasers at the ship and fires while the ship’s shields are able to handle them!
<Zaand (serious) – It would appear that they figured out how to work the shields!>
<Doctor Cacloor (frustrated) – Ugh! They just had to be too stupid to be properly stupid!>
Doctor Cacloor’s ship starts to fire at them as they head for cover! The Pakled aims the guns at them and is about to fire!
<Pakled pilot (childlike happy) Bye-bye!>
Suddenly, Doctor Cacloor’s ship is hit from behind by a phaser! It’s revealed to be the Phase II shuttle, the racer, that has come to the rescue! Inside the racer is Captain Decker and Scotty!
<Scotty (excited) – Let’s show ’em who they’re messin’ wi’!>
The speedster still continues to fire at Doctor Cacloor’s ship and the Pakled pilot acts like a scared child and flies away! With the danger gone, the racer lands near the others.
<Captain Decker (concern) – Is everyone here ok?>
<Doctor Cacloor (a bit annoyed) – You took your time. Now get me the hell out of here.>
<Scotty (sarcasm) – Who's the bonnie lassie? An’ whit were thae ape men we spied at that shelter?>
<Doctor Cronkov (concern) – Best to explain while we’re moving out.>
Suddenly a group of Pakleds are seen heading toward them like big dumb apes as if they are attracted by the racer.
<Doctor Cromkov (worried) – Oh’ jeez! Get us the heck out of here!>
They’re now back on the Enterprise and Doctor Cacloor is in a guest room as they plan to meet up with the Grablugar ship that was meant to pick her up from the unnamed planet.
<Captain Decker (not seen but heard) – Captain’s log supplemental. We managed to get Doctor Cacloor out of a predicament that was of her own making, and since her people are not a member of the federation and the planet is considered neutral, charges cannot be brought to her. We plan to meet up with the ship that was meant to pick her up and the Grablugars requested that this Pakled incident would remain concealed for the sake of their reputation while I’ll let the federation handle the politics.>
Back to the unnamed planet, Doctor Cacloor’s ship is flying in space with a group of Pakleds inside who seem happy with what they see.
<24th century historian (not seen but heard) – And hence forth the beginning of the Pakleds’ voyage into the final frontier where they were mostly unknown until the 2360s which they became infamous for their theft, bartering or deception for other people’s technology, which by the way is considered quite humiliating since they are known for being the least intelligent species in the galaxy.>
