The Enterprise heads towards the planet called Tocar where the Tocarians achieved warp speed. NOTE: The Tocarians look similar to humans with “Xs” on their cheeks.
<Captain Decker (not seen but heard) – Captain’s log stardate { }. One of the many amazing things when it comes to travelling the universe is to witness other worlds achieving the ability of doing the same. The Tocarians of Tocar has become a post-warp society and starfleet has appointed us to deliver an invitation to join the federation.>
Captain Decker, Xon and Arex beam down on the planet and are in a city. Arex has a tricorder with him. The three heads towards the place where the meeting takes place.
<Captain Decker (curious) – So you’re studying the behavior patterns of others so you can work better with the crew members?>
<Xon (disciplined) – Yes, I have noticed that others seem annoyed by my directness when it comes to my opinions, especially from Lieutenant M’Ress.>
<Captain Decker (mildly amused) – Yes, well, it is wise to be in good terms with someone with claws.>
They pass by some Tocarians who give them a mean glare. A rock hits the back of Arex’s head and it was a Tocarian child. The three of course are surprised by this.
<Tocarian child (hateful) – Filthy creature!>
<Captain Decker (a little confused but keeping his cool) – Ok. Obviously some here don’t like outsiders so we better watch our step.>
As the three move, Xon notices that the angry-looking Tocarians are only looking at Arex. They head towards a main government building where the meeting will take place. Inside is Leader Tyacan who happy to see them but hasn’t yet noticed Arex.
<Leader Tyacan (delighted) – Ah! Captain Decker! Welcome! Welcome!>
<Captain Decker (delighted) – Thank you for excepting our invitation to the federation, Mister....?>
<Leader Tyacan (delighted) - It’s actually is Leader Tyacan. When in this position one temporary forfeits his or her real name until someone else takes over. Now, I believe there are things to discuss like rules and regulations of the federation and what rights my people would have.>
While the discussion is going on, Arex is using his tricorder to analyze the atmosphere to avoid any health issues like breathable air and foreign germs for the Tocarian visitors when visiting other planets like earth since they’re new to space travelling when it comes to stuff like immunization. A Tocarian brings drinks on a tray but drops them is shock as if he saw a monster which is Arex, and with this, Leader Tyacan sees this and is shocked enough to imminently push the button on his desk communicator to call in the guards! Arex of course is confused by this.
<Captain Decker (pleading) – Now wait! My lieutenant is simply analyzing your atmosphere to avoid any possible health issues when it comes to visiting earth. The tricorder isn’t a weapon.>
The Tocarian guards come in and violently forces Arex to the floor!
<Leader Tyacan (hateful) – Guards! Take that monstrosity to a holding cell!>
<Captain Decker (in disbelief and direct) Now hold on! Lieutenant Arex has done no harm and if we unintentionally broke one of your laws, then I think we can settle this peacefully!>
<Leader Tyacan (hateful) – You named this thing and gave it a position? Obviously your federation needs our guidance and wisdom to become better for a better universe!>
<Captain Decker (in disbelief and direct) – How exactly does threatening my lieutenant makes things better?!>
<Leader Tyacan (hateful) – Look at this abomination. It is not like us and has no right to be around us and with space travel and expanding our reach and territory, it has no right to exist in a universe that is rightfully ours.>
<Captain Decker (angry) - I order you to release him now because we are leaving!>
The Tocarian guards aim their guns at Captain Decker and Xon.
<Xon (disciplined) – Captain. Right now we are at a disadvantage and the best way to settle this is to call our superiors to handle this through diplomacy.>
<Leader Tyacan (impatient) – Good. Maybe I can do better reasoning with them since you see this thing as a person.>
At the mess hall of the Enterprise, M’Ress and Scotty are having lunch.
<M’Ress (upset) – I can’t believe they treated Arex as if he was less of a person! If I was down there I would have....!>
<Scotty – Got the same treatment as Arex did, aye? We love ye jist as ye are, hen, but I’ve seen this kind o’ daft hatred wi’ the Cheron folk, an’ the last twa are likely still stuck on that deid planet o’ theirs, carryin’ on wi’ their bigotry ’cause it’s aw they’ve got left. The difference is, this lot are agin onybody that’s no quite like them in looks—like humans an’ Vulcans—an’ that’s why the captain an’ Xon are still free.>
<M’Ress (upset) – And those bigots actually believe that the federation is going to help them with their universal ethnic cleansing.>
<Scotty – It’s fair beyond daft, aye.>
Elsewhere in the Enterprise, a private room, Captain Decker and Xon are taking to a male Trill named Admiral Negrer through a viewscreen.
<Admiral Negrer (upset) – I have to admit that I’m shocked by this and I even sent a Rhaandarite ensign over there to study their culture to avoid any misunderstanding and no doubt her being “accepted” is why she saw nothing suspicious. Already they have been disqualified based on discrimination and violations of sentient rights, but of course we didn’t tell Leader Tyacan about his and for now we’re playing along because of Arex being their prisoner.>
<Captain Decker (concern) – Have they agreed to let him go?>
< Admiral Negrer (mildly in disbelief) – According to them, it would be irresponsible and immoral to let someone like Arex to be free. We didn’t push it because how delicate things are.>
<Captain Decker (in disbelief) – Unbelievable.>
< Admiral Negrer (serious) – Captain, since Arex is a federation citizen being held against his will, you may have to do drastic measures because I have a feeling he’s on borrowed time with the way Leader Tyacan was talking.>
In a holding cell on Tyacan, Arex is thrown inside a cell. After getting up and brushing himself off, he notices that he’s not alone. A being covered in fur with a snout and three eyes.
<Arex (nervous) – H....hello?>
<Unimarc (acting cheerful) – Hello. I’m Unimarc. And you are?
<Arex (a little confused) – Arex.>
<Unimarc (acting cheerful) – Greetings again. You do not look like someone who is from around here. Are you one of those expected visitors from another world that I overheard some Tocarians talk about?>
<Arex – yes, but they didn’t seem to like how I looked.>
<Unimarc (a little sad) – No, they rather be with others that are similar to them in appearance.>
<Arex (curious) – So where are you from, Unimarc?>
<Unimarc – From here. The Tocarians are actually one of two sentient species native to this planet while they originally came from the other side and came here by ship, the sailing on water kind, a very long time ago and enslaved my people, the Orculas, as they took over, but as their technology advanced, the less they needed us and started to exterminate us.>
<Arex (horrified) – They tried to wipe you out?>
<Unimarc – And will succeed after they execute me. They want it to be a spectacular event where they finally take down the “great evil” while thinking all their problems will magically go away as if my people was the source.>
<Arex (horrified) – I.... I thought these people were a peaceful culture, then just crazy bigots, but they’re simply monsters!>
<Unimarc – On the outside they do look like an enlightenment people when it comes to image. It’s understandable that you at first thought otherwise. They're very good at hiding their sins from outsiders.>
<Arex – Unimarc. My crew members of the Enterprise are no doubt going to make an attempt to rescue me and I’m sure they’ll take you too because of the situation.>
Unimarc thinks for a moment.
<Unimarc – Arex? If things don’t go that way, would you do me a favor? Just in case?>
<Alex (concerned) – Unimarc.>
<Unimarc – Please, just in case. The Tocarians would like to do more then just deliver genocide to my kind but make it seem that the Orculas never existed to begin with. There are things that we have hidden to stop them from doing that, to make sure that others will know that we did exist and we had lives that had worth. I want to tell you where they're hidden.>
<Alex (concerned) – Ok, but I’m rooting for both of us getting rescued.>
<Unimarc (amused) – Yeah, me too.>
Elsewhere on Tyacan and it’s now night time, a rescue team with Tar-rak leading beam down in the place where Arex is locked in. They all have phaser rifles which are new. Captain Decker is with them.
<Tar-rak (in charge and low tone) – Make sure your phaser rifles are set for stun even though these bigoted creeps makes you want to disintegrate them. Are we ready to go, Captain?>
<Captain Decker (serious and low tone) – You’re the expert here so lead on.>
Tar-rak gives the signal. The team searches the place and stun any Tocarian Guards they find. They even use “stun grenades”. One of the Tocarian Guards screams “monster” when he sees Tar-rak and Tar-rak knocks his lights out with his fist.
<Tar-rak (tough) – That’s Mister Monster to you, ya creep!>
They finally find Arex who is now alone in his cell.
<Arex (happy) – Captain!>
<Captian Decker (determined) – Don’t worry, lieutenant, we’ll have you out of here.>
Captain Decker destroys the lock with a phaser and frees Arex.
<Arex (desperate) – Captain! We need to save Unimarc!>
Elsewhere in the middle of the city, a dead Unimarc is tied to a pole and has been beaten to death in a very disrespectful way. Captain Decker, Arex and the others are shocked by the sight.
<Tar-rak (disgusted) – As if these Tocarians couldn’t disgust me even further.>
<Captain Decker (mildly disturbed but in control) – We.... we better get going.>
<Arex (serious) – Wait, Captain. There’s a very important promise I must keep.>
In the hanger of the Enterprise, a pile of books, scrolls, art, photos and other types of papers that hold the history of the Orculas is shown.
<Captain Decker (not seen but heard) – Captain’s log supplemental. This.... ended up being the worst kind of diaster. At first we thought we were going to get a new member for the United Federation of Planets, but it turned out that not only were they very intolerant to non-humanoid species, but are responsible of making a neighbor species extinct simply because they believed that they had no right to exist. Arex, my navigator, made a promise to the last of the Orculas named Unimarc to retrieve certain historical items that proves their existence which was hidden in a cave. I convinced Arex to give the material to historians who will study it and make digital copies for the public to read and I even had some advertisement of it sent out so more people out there will be aware of it. Although the Orculas deserved better, this is the best we can do when it comes to justice which it will make it impossible for the Tocarians to erase their existence completely. As for the Tocarians themselves, I was told that Admiral Negrer will personally handle that.>
On earth and starfleet, Admiral Negrer is having a talk with Leader Tyacan through a view-screen.
<Leader Tyacan (furious) - What Captain Decker and his thugs did was inexcusable and as a member of the federation I demand they be punished in the most harshest way!>
<Admiral Negrer (unimpressed) – Except that you’re not a member of the federation.>
<Leader Tyacan (shocked) – But you said....!>
<Admiral Negrer (unimpressed) – I told you what you wanted to hear because Lieutenant Arex’s life was on the line. Now since you’re not a member, the prime directive prevents us from meddling with your “affairs”, but it doesn’t stop us from warning the known universe about you and what you have done, so don’t expect to find any friends out there, also, I suggest you don’t have any plans of attacking any worlds with sentient races who don’t fit your acceptance because of your self-righteous bigotry since chances are they will have bigger guns and faster ships and some of them are members who has the perk called starfleet (now being deadly serious) and believe me that we defiantly have bigger guns and faster ships. So be warned and perhaps it would be best if you stayed on your planet and not ever leave.>
Elsewhere on another planet, a Arcadian woman is at a cafe and notices something of interest on her pad. It’s material of the Orculas’ history and stuff. Their memory will live on.
