It starts with a Caitian cargo ship moving in space. Inside are some Caitians, both male and female, and a few Lurians. The Caitian captain is pushing some buttons to set up the coordinates.
< Caitian Captain – Right. Another jump to warp and we’ll finally reach our destination.>
<Caitian Crew Member – I hear that the place we’re going to has a nice restaurant there that serves tasty meat.>
<Another Caitian Crew Member – Yeah, I heard about the place but the name is too hard to pronounce for a lot of people.>
<Caitain Captain – They simply call it the good food restaurant instead of risking their tongues.>
Suddenly sparks fly and the crew are startled and thrown around! A alarm sound is heard! The Caitian crew try to get to their consoles!
<Caitian Captain (shocked and serious) – What just hit us?!>
<Caitian Crew Member (shocked and serious) - We’ve been hit from what appears to be disrupters!>
<Another Caitian Crew Member (shocked and serious) – Scanners have picked up....! Wait! It’s gone!>
<Caitian Captain (shocked and serious) – What do mean it’s gone....!>
The Caitian Captain and crew see a TOS Klingon ship getting uncloaked in front of them which they know spells trouble for them.
Elsewhere, The Enterprise is seen moving through space. Inside the bridge Scotty and some of his people have finished modifying the “fancy stools” to have a back-end for support. Scotty and Captain Decker look at the captain’s chair.
<Scotty – I can see why ye've got a problem wi' this thing. Wan wid wonder if ye wur a captain or an emperor. I could maybe spare some folk tae build a mair humble version.>
<Captain Decker – ‘Sign’. Since we’re here for only 6 months, we might as well wait until it ends and the changes can be made along the rest when phase 3 happens. I’m just happy we could deal with the crew’s needs so they wouldn’t do a mutiny.>
M’Ress gets a call.
<M’Ress – Captain? I’m receiving a distress signal. (now a little concern) It’s from one of my sire’s cargo ships.>
<Captain Decker (a little confused) – Sire’s?>
<Scotty – Her faither rins a cargo deliverin' business.>
<Captain Decker – Well, by Federation law we are to answer all distress signals, so set a course to where that signal is coming from.>
<Arex – Yes, captain.>
Later, the Enterprise nears the damaged and floating in space Caitian cargo ship. The head of security is a Ariolo named Tar-rak who’s people are probably not yet members of the Federation. He and his team teleport to the cargo section. They see that nothing seems to have been stolen. They have wrist communicators and phasers that are similar to Star Trek: The Motion Picture.
<Captain Decker (not seen but heard) – Captain’s log stardate { } We finally reached the Caitian cargo ship and already things don’t look good. A security team was sent there to find any survivors and scans on the damaged areas may have given us a clue on who was behind this. Hopefully once the black box is retrieved we will have more information.>
<Tar-rak – Ok, people, stay alert in case danger is waiting for us, especially since these phasers are new and sorta experimental.>
<One of the Guards (a little worried) – They’re experimental?>
<Tar-rak – Yeah, probably shouldn’t have told you that part. My bad.>
<One of the Guards (curious) – So I hear that your people haven’t yet decided on whether or not they want to join the Federation.>
<Tar-rak (focused) – Yeah, the leaders of the Ariolo like to do the slow and steady when it comes to things like that and I guess you can say that I personally got impatient and my past work in security and space task force helped me to get this job. That technically I’m the first Ariolo to join the Federation.>
<One of the Guards (curious) – So you never went to Starfleet Academy?>
<Tar-rak (focused) – Of course I had to learn your protocols and stuff but I already had the advanced training. Meaning I was already good enough to not need to attend.>
The security team spots a dead Lurian shot by a distrupter. The team have their phasers aimed at different directions to be ready for the unexpected while Tar-rak reports this through his wrist communicator.
<Tar-rak (talking into wrist communicator) – Enterprise? I’m afraid we found a dead body and the burn mark indicates the poor fellow was shot.>
<Captain Decker (not seen and from wrist communicator) – Understood. Proceed with caution.>
Tar-rak does a back kick like a horse to get through the doors of the control room. They find the crew, minus the female Caitians, dead while the control room has damage from disrupter firing.
<Tar-rak (disturbed but keeps his cool) – Man, I hope the ones who did this gets a big dose of karma.>
In the meeting room of the Enterprise, Captain Decker, Xon, M’Ress, Scotty and Doctor Cronkov are sitting at the table while Tar-rak is standing.
<Captain Decker – Sorry that we couldn’t provide you a seat, lieutenant.>
<Tar-rak – it’s ok, sir. Us Ariolos do a lot of things standing, even sleeping.>
The view screen is showing the footage of the black box which shows the uncloaking TOS Klingon ship and then the inside of the cargo ship where the TOS Klingons are killing everyone but the female Caitians. M’Ress shows concern for this. One of the TOS Klingons says ‘J’utrar wants the female animals for the experiment.’. Xon looks into the computer for the name J’utrar.
<M’Ress (concern) – What’s this experiment they’re talking about?>
<Xon (disciplined) – According to this, J’utrar is a Klingon geneticist. So one would assume the experiment is biological.>
< Doctor Cronkov – Ok. But what kind of biological experiment that needs only female Caitians and not the male ones?>
Xon thinks for a minute.
<Xon (disciplined) – Captain? Have you ever heard of what happened to the Klingons during the 22nd century?>
<Captain Decker – Just rumours about an experiment that unintentionally created a plaque that changed them into something similar to us humans.>
<Xon (disciplined) – Correct, and I think maybe they plan to reverse that change by learning from the female Caitians when it comes to something called the mechanism.>
<Captain Decker – Mechanism?>
<M’Ress – There’s a theory that long ago my people were once close to extinction and somehow nature fixed the problem by giving the females of what you call the mechanism which does two thing which is allowing us females to breed with other mammals outside our race and it strengthens the Caitian DNA of the youngling to become dominate.>
<Xon (disciplined) – Which would make a half-breed practically like a full-breed despite having the father’s non-Caitian DNA.>
< Doctor Cronkov – Ok, I think I see where you’re getting at. This J’utrar quack probably hopes to learn something from this “mechanism” to create a medical method that targets the Klingon part and to make it strong enough to come out in the open.>
<Xon (disciplined) – Correct.>
<Captain Decker – What were the Klingons like before the change?>
<Xon (disciplined) – From what I have read, they were more resilient and aggressive when compared to the ones we are familiar with. If they do succeed in reverting themselves to what those before them used to be, they will no doubt become more dangerous.>
The Enterprise comes near a big astroid.
<Captain Decker (not seen but heard) – Captain’s log stardate { }. We managed to follow the warp trail to this astroid and so far everything seems quiet, which sometimes means that there may be a cloaked ship near by when it comes to the Klingons. We pray that the captives are unharmed as we attempt a rescue.>
Inside the bridge.
<Captain Decker – Raise shields in case our friends are out there being unseen and move steadily.>
<Xon (disciplined) – I will make sure the rescue party will be ready to teleport inside the astroid when the moment of opportunity comes.>
Xon leaves the bridge.
Inside the bridge of the Klingon ship, the TOS Klingons are waiting for their captain to give them the command to attack as they watch the Enterprise through the view screen. The Klingon captain lefts his hand and says ‘baH!’. The Klingon ship uncloaks and the Enterprise quickly notices it as it fires a torpedo at them! The bridge of the Enterprise feels the impact! The red alert sound is heard!
<Captain Decker (loud) – Return fire!>
The Klingon ship is hit! The Enterprise and Klingon ship circles around each other! They then continue to fire at each other!
Captain Decker (determined) – Be ready to act once they cloak!)
Inside the Klingon ship the captain gives the order to cloak by saying ‘So!’. The moment the Klingon ship goes into cloak Captain Decker gives the command to go to full impulse and get behind the astroid! Inside the astroid, Xon, M’Ress, Tar-rak and two security people are teleported.
<Xon (disciplined) – The captain’s plan has worked based on the fact that a Klingon ship cannot use their weapons when cloaked and noticing the moment they cloaked gives one an idea on where they are for a few seconds to allow the Enterprise to get in place to lower it’s shields long enough to beam us here.>
<Tar-Rak (getting ready for action) – And that was step 1 and here comes step 2!>
A group of TOS Klingons with disrupters arrive to welcome their uninvited guests. The good guys fire back. Outside the Enterprise faces the Klingon ship again. The Enterprise fires a torpedo and hits the Klingon ship. Inside the bridge is a lady working the weapons controls that’s in the left.
<Lady working the weapons controls – Direct hit, sir!>
<Captain Decker (determined) – Looks like they don’t like us being too close to the astroid! Keep firing!>
Taking advantage that the astroid that the Enterprise is close to is too important to the TOS Klingons, the Enterprise pours on the firing until the Klingon ship explodes! Inside the astroid, The good guys are getting closer to their goal against the TOS Klingons, but sadly one of the security people is shot dead! Tar-Rak is really angry about that!
<Tar-Rak (angry) – Right! Time for some painful revenge!>
To the TOS Klingons’ surprise, Tar-Rak charges at them at the running speed of a horse, thus giving the others the advantage! They finally reach an area which looks like a lab. Someone is like been waiting for them which is a TOS Klingon named J’utrar.
< J’utrar> (amused) – Hello. I am J’utrar. Do you have an appointment?>
<Xon (disciplined) – I am afraid that your attempts at humour will not sway our hands at stopping you from what you are doing. Now release your captives.>
<J’utrar (amused) – Very well, but I’m afraid that they’re not in the best conditions.>
The bodies of the female Caitians are covered while on slabs. M’Ress is in shock and disbelief when she sees them.
<M’Ress (shocked and in disbelief) – Wh....why would you do this? They were innocent people who never hurt anyone.>
<J’utrar – I gave their lives purpose. Allowed them to be part of a greatness.
<M’ress (angry) – Don’t you dare treat them as if they were worthless! And as for allowing, you kidnapped them and forced your experiments on them as if they weren’t people and I bet you don’t even know their names because what’s the point? You won’t even bother to remember them!>
<J’utrar (indifferent) – Yes, well, your kind is nothing but pathetic talking animals.>
M’Ress loses it and becomes feral and is ready to strike J’utrar down until Xon intervenes and with his Vulcan strength is able to hold her long enough to give her the Vulcan nerve pinch to knock her out! Xon hands the unconscious M’Ress to Tar-Rak.
<Tar-Rak (mildly disgusted) You’re a real sick piece of work, you know that?>
J’utrar doesn’t even respond to what Tar-Rak said and Captain Decker appears with more security people.
<Captain Decker (in charge) – Tar-Rak? Please take M’Ress back to the ship. As for you, your sickening experiments ends now and you will face the consequences.>
<J’utrar – Hm. I was expecting Kirk when we saw the Enterprise, but more importantly, you are right about the experiment ending because we already finished it.>
J’utrar gives a hand signal to tell someone to come out in the open. It’s what you would call a semi-original Klingon who looks like a TOS Klingon with his forehead somewhat changed.
<J’utrar (proud) – I already tested the serum that I created on this brave warrior and it WORKS! I can reverse what those fools did long ago because they thought it was wise to try to improve what was already perfect. Within a week or two he will be fully transform into what our kind used to be and will again.>
<Xon (disciplined) – And I am afraid that he will be the only one since there is no way starfleet will allow you to give the serum to the Klingon empire.>
<J’utrar (being a smart-ass) – Actually the moment it was revealed that the serum worked we sent an encrypted file of the formula through subspace to the Klingon empire. And that was before you people arrived meaning that we didn’t even need to distract you because you were already too late.>
The semi-original Klingon mildly laughs while J’utrara turns away from Decker and Xon with his eyes looking up.
<J’utrar – So tremble, universe. (yells) Tremble!>
J’utrar lifts his arms and head in a dramatic way.
<J’utrar (loud and dramatic) – For the true Klingons are returning!!!>
The semi-original Klingon smiles with pride while Xon and Decker look displeased. Imagine hearing a slow version of the Klingon theme from Star Trek: The Motion Picture.
Back on the Enterprise, Decker and Xon are on the turbo lift.
<Captain Decker (disappointed with himself) – I should have never let M’Ress join the rescue team because of how personal it was. I was a idiot for not thinking things through and not seeing the obvious.>
Decker looks at Xon as if expecting something and Xon realizes this.
<Xon (disciplined) – I am sorry, captain, but I cannot disagree with you when what you said is true.>
<Captain Decker (mildly awkward) – Moving onto other topics, starfleet contacted me and said that the Federation made a deal with the Klingon empire to keep this quiet to avoid a war.>
<Xon (disciplined) – I am sure that Lieutenant M’Ress will be displeased about this.>
<Captain Decker – And I’m betting the vast majority of Klingons will see the serum as a miracle of science without knowing it’s origin.>
<Xon (disciplined) – That is usually the way secrets work and they will probably be too eager on regaining “lost glory” to even bother to ask the question.>
<Captain Decker (concerned) – So the game is about to change, to get more serious, once the Klingons mass produce the serum for their people, isn’t it?>
<Xon (disciplined but concerned) – As I said before, I only know what I have read, but if what was written is true, then we should be very concern and thoroughly prepared for an enemy who will be more formidable and perhaps more bold when it comes to actions that may cause harm the Federation.>
The Enterprise moves through space.
