Space is shown and the planet earth.
<Admiral Kirk (not shown and narrating) – The year is 2271 and the 5 year mission has ended while Starfleet now has a new project in mind to refit all their ships with new technology, but before this can happen, they decided to refit 6 ships to be given upgrades which are prototypes of this technology to see what will need fixing and what can be improved which will be called Phase II. The Enterprise was chosen to be part of this and is designated as test ship #4. Since I’m now an admiral, a new captain had to be assigned and I personally recommended Will Decker who seems very devoted to the project. I’m sure he’ll do just fine.>
Kirk is shown walking.
< Admiral Kirk (narrating) – Chekhov, who was my navigator, was transferred to the Phase I of the project just when the 4th year of the mission started while I hear that M’Ress and Arex will be sticking around a little longer for the testing which will take 6 months while the rest will be a new, but temporary, crew, since the others have other affairs to deal with, and some, sadly, may not be coming back. Of course Scotty is going to be there since he sees the old girl as his baby.>
Kirk teleports to a space station.
<Admiral Kirk (narrating) – This will be the first voyage of the Phase II Enterprise and I wish them luck since there are some ricks when experimenting with new technology while testing it out there.>
Kirk see Decker looking out of the window to look at the Phase II Enterprise in docking while workers in life support belts are doing the final preparations.
<Admiral Kirk – She’s a impressive view, isn’t she?>
<Captain Decker – Admiral. Indeed it is.>
<Admiral Kirk – Once the final preparations are done, you and your crew will be freed to take her out and enjoy the other sites that are out there.>
<Captain Decker – Her?>
<Admiral Kirk – I take it you’re the kind who can’t see why there are those who would call a machine a girl.>
<Captain Decker – I’ll admit that I never saw the point.>
<Admiral Kirk – Well, after a while, a ship stops being just a transport and more of a home where you start to feel that in a way she is alive and will always be there for you as long as you take care of her and more importantly believe in her.>
A closer look at the front of the Phase II Enterprise and a familiar song heard that always starts at the beginning.
<Admiral Kirk (not shown) – Because she’s like a crew member that will never let you down.>
At the rear of the Enterprise some workers are entering at the back, and when the doors closes, one of the workers’ life support belt malfunctions with a spark and the field surrounding him is gone. All the workers are shocked by this and one of them says ‘Dude. Did you just luck out?’
Admiral Kirk and Captain Decker meet Scotty inside engineer of the Enterprise which is based on the designs of Phase II enterprise of the never made TV series. Scotty shows them the malfunction life support belt.
<Scotty – Ah've been haein' a wee look at the circuitry, an' ah've found some things no' workin' sae guid. Ah think that the atmosphere field put a lot o' strain on the system, an' it wisnae gonnae be lang afore it stopped.>
<Admiral Kirk – And the others?>
<Scotty – The same but no' quite at the same level, but they're gettin' there wi' each use. Best we go back tae the tried an' true suits an' I even hae ma folk pit in the improvements that were never made acause o' the belts.>
<Admiral Kirk - I’ll contact Starfleet about this and recommend a wide range subspace warning about the flaw to the civilians.>
<Captain Decker – Civilians? I thought the belt was for Starfleet only.>
<Scotty – It wis until the Oh-RYE-ons, or OR-ee-uns wi' the way the blue yins pronounce it, stole oors an' sauld the tech through the black market an' a guid nummer o' their customers are federation citizens.>
Kirk puts his finger and thumb on the top of his nose, between the eyes, as if he’s going to say something that Decker may not like.
<Admiral Kirk – Decker. I know this isn’t actually an ideal first mission and normally we would let the ‘whatever they call themselves’ to their own business, but their business through their sales has involved us and we need their list of buyers, and believe me, they do have a list in case a buyer betrays them, and I’m “personally” responsible for ending the Oh-RYE-ons’ neutrality and making things harder for their piracy so it won’t be easy. We may have to figure out what to bargain them with.>
<Captain Decker – Perhaps I can.... blackmail them and threaten their reputation.>
<Scotty – Ye'd be willin' tae fight dirty?>
<Captain Decker – Only as a last straw.>
The bridge, the Phase II one of the never made TV series, is shown and Captain Decker arrives through the lift.
<Arex – Captain on the bridge.>
<Captain Decker – At ease.>
Captain Decker looks at science officer Xon.
<Captain Decker – Xon? I believe.>
<Xon (disciplined) – Yes, Captain Decker. I shall be your science officer and will assist you with the testing with the best of my abilities.>
<Captain Decker – Best is all one can ask for because like my old man once said.... perfect is for suckers.>
Captain Decker looks at the rest of the crew.
<Captain Decker – As you probably heard, the life support belts have a flaw that makes them unsafe to use and it seems people outside of starfleet still have access to them and the only way to find them all is though the Oh-RYE-ons’ help because they’re the ones who made those ownerships possible.>
<M’Ress – Sounds like we’ll probably end up testing the improved shields of the Enterprise.>
<Captain Decker (a little worried) – Yeah, I was thinking the same thing.>
Before sitting, Captain Decker looks at the captain’s chair that looks like a throne and realizes that the captain seems to have gotten an upgrade while the rest got a downgrade that look like fancy stools with no backends. Seeing Alex moving his rear pretty much says it. Decker sits on his chair and calls engineer.
<Scotty (not shown and from communicator) – Scotty here.
<Captain Decker – Is everything set?>
<Scotty (not shown and from communicator) – Gie the wird an we'll pit the key in.>
<Captain Decker – The word is given, Mister Scott.>
Outside the Phase II Enterprise in docking has her systems starting up. Imagine a version of the Star Trek II theme song playing.
The Enterprise leaves the dock and heads out to their destination and once they’re far enough they make a jump into warp speed.
At the sick bay of the Enterprise that’s based on the never made Phase II TV series, a Tellarite named Cronkov who’s the ship’s doctor looks at the place.
<Cronkov (a little moody) – Ugh. I probably won’t even know what half the stuff here does.>
The Enterprise is shown moving at warp speed.
<Captain Decker (not shown) – Captain’s log stardate { }. We are now heading towards the planet Oh-RYE-on in hopes to negotiate access to the sales list to halt the usage of a failed product that could cause the loss of more lives since we just received a report where there has been some cases of life support belt failures in the worse places while the subspace warning has managed to reached some but not enough. We hope to conclude this business as soon as possible.>
Inside the bridge.
<M’Ress – Captain? Admiral Kirk is calling.>
<Captain Decker – Put it on screen.>
Admiral Kirk is shown on screen.
<Captain Decker – Admiral.>
<Admiral Kirk (on screen) – Captain. I....may have some good news. I managed to contact a “OR-ee-un” who happens to be the daughter of the captain who was involved with the cargo theft of the Huron who also happened to be the one behind the life support belt theft. Her name is Hissu.>
<Captain Decker – I’m starting to recall the word “bargain”.>
<Admiral Kirk (on screen) – Yes, there was no way we were going to get what we want for free. She wants the Federation to create a cover story to allow them to escape blame and make it seem official. Despite how distasteful this is, the choices we have are either saving lives or revealing the truth.>
<Captain Decker – Understood, sir. We’ll make the arrangements as quickly as possible.>
<Admiral Kirk (on screen) – Good. And Decker. Remember that her side of the aisle pronounces the name of her race OR-ee-un, so be careful not to say Oh-RYE-on. Kirk out.>
Another view of the bridge.
<Xon (disciplined) – Fascinating. I wonder how something like that started.>
<Captain Decker – Or which one came first.
<Xon (disciplined) – I am certain that both sides would have a different opinion about that.>
The Enterprise is now in the Pi³ Orionis system and the captain orders the ship to halt.
Inside the bridge.
<Xon (disciplined) - Captain. Getting closer to Oh-RYE-on so we can be within teleporter range will no doubt have us spotted by the inhabitants.>
<Captain Decker – Agreed, I think it’s best for the Enterprise to be waiting for us at a safe distance while I brought something that might do the trick in case we need to make a fast getaway.>
Xon and M’Ress are at the shuttle bay with Decker and they see a special kind of shuttle, the Phase II shuttle from the unmade TV series. They all have those wrist communicators and M’Ress has a tricorder that’s similar to what Star Trek: The Motion Picture had.
<Xon (disciplined) – I see. A racing shuttle-craft specially designed for speed. Logically this would be the best means for a “fast getaway”.>
Outside in space, the racing shuttle-craft leaves the Enterprise.
Inside the racing shuttle-craft.
<Captain Decker – Ok. Is there anything else I should know before the meeting?>
<M’Ress (looking at her tricorder) – Adding to what the Admiral gave, the two parties are both pirates and privateers, but it stops there with cultural differences like the OR-ee-uns wearing masks to symbolize that they are more then just physical beings. There’s also parts of them that are unseen like the mind, the spirit and what you humans would call the soul.>
The racing shuttle-craft lands on the planet in a area where the meeting can be private. The three leave the craft and head towards a direction where they meet with a group of “OR-ee-uns” in what looks like a hut with Hissu obviously in charge.
<Captain Decker – Thank you for agreeing to this....>
<Hissu (direct and no nonsense) – Let’s skip the pleasantries and get this done and over with. The only reason I wanted this here on OR-ee-un is because it gives us a great advantage while having you outsiders here still has some risks if those green idiots found out. Now.... We give you the list and you tell people it wasn’t our fault with the belts so we can continue our trade business without further hassle, since the lack of neutrality already makes it hard. Do we have a deal?>
<Captain Decker (mildly annoyed but keeping it in) – Because of the situation, and the fact that you.... OR-ee-uns.... are quite capable of causing trouble to Federation space in your own special way, it’s within our power to give you what you want.>
Hissu half-way hands the disc to Decker but doesn’t let go.
<Hissu (pleased and no nonsense) – Good. But if you cross me, you will not feel safe while living until the time comes that I find you and give you a slow and very painful death.>
<Captain Decker (keeping his composure) – I do believe that seals the deal.>
Suddenly, they notice someone crashing the party.
(Latirc (not shown but heard) – Well, well, well. What do we have here?>
It’s revealed to be a group of Oh-RYE-ons.
<Latirc (arrogant and insulting) – Are you blues trying to do business? Do you even know how to do business with your limited intelligence?>
<Oh-RYE-on thug (amused) – You blues are a disgrace to all Oh-RYE-ons.>
<OR-ee-un thug (angry) – We are all OR-ee-uns!>
Hissu raises her hand as a sign to make her thug be quiet.
<Hissu (annoyed but in control) – You disgust me, Latirc. Long ago your side walked away from the old ways and you can’t even remember how to pronounce the name of our kind. Why don’t you walk away and mind your own business.>
Decker, Xon and M’Ress are concern about the situation.
<Captain Decker (whisper) – M’Ress? Since you’re the fastest here I want you to head towards the racer and get it running and we’ll be there as soon a possible.>
<M’Ress (whisper) – Yes, captain.>
M’Ress, who at first hands her tricorder to Xon to hold, reveals cat-like speed and agility while on all fours as she runs towards the racer.
< Latirc (not shown but heard) – Old ways? More like myths you blues made up like the rest of your so called culture in hopes to look less pathetic.>
<Hissu (not shown but heard) – Speaking of pathetic, are you still holding a grudge that my father was a better privateer then you while being blue?>
Latirc has a hold of one of Hissu’s arms and she has a knife aimed at his neck.
<Latirc (annoyed) – Since a business deal with starfleet is too big a deal for you blues, we might as well take over and demand a really big cut.>
<Hissu (annoyed and amused) – As always you’re too slow because a deal was already made, but I’m more then willing to give you a different kind of cut.>
Hissu looks at Captain Decker.
<Hissu – Oh’ you guys can go.>
The angry Latirc pushes Hissu away.
<Latirc (angry) No ones going anywhere and anyone who’s blue or tan are going to die!>
A fire fight begins and Decker and Xon make their escape!
<Captain Decker – I hope these new wrist communicators work as advertise!>
M’Ress is in the racer and has already started the systems and is waiting for the others. She hears a beep from her wrist communicator.
<M’Ress (talking into the wrist communicator) - Captain?>
<Captain Decker (not shown and from the wrist communicator) – Xon and I are on our way and we have some.... uh.... Oh-RYE-ons following us!>
<M’Ress (talking into the wrist communicator) – The racer is ready to go!>
M’Ress has her paws on the controls so to be ready to go when the two arrive.
<M’Ress (annoyed) – I hope we never come back to this confusing planet.>
The running Decker and Xon are being chased by Oh-RYE-ons who are firing at them. They manage to enter the racer and Decker yells ‘GO!’. The racer heads out and into space while they’re being chased by small Oh-RYE-on ships who are firing at them!
Inside the racer, Decker gets a hand-held console to operate the built in phasers.
<M’Ress (worried) – Captain? I think I should tell you that I only received basic pilot training and am not a professional racer!>
<Captain Decker (focused on the weapons console) – You’re doing fine.
<Xon (disciplined) – Yes, we are not yet dead.>
M’Ress looks at Xon and gives him that look that makes him wonder what he did to annoy her which he does by simply raising one of his eyebrows.
The small Oh-RYE-on ships are having trouble catching up with the racer but they’re close enough to fire their weapons at it while it fires back. Inside one of the Oh-RYE-on ships the targeting system is locked on the racer.
<Oh-RYE-on pilot – Bye-bye, filthy starfleeters!>
The Oh-RYE-on pilot is then startled by something and makes his ship turn away! It’s the Enterprise which makes the rest of the small Oh-RYE-on ships turn away! The racer has made it!
Later, the Enterprise is seen flying through space.
<Captain Decker (not seen) – Captain’s log stardate { }. We imminently sent the list to starfleet and I’m told that the federation has gotten their best writers to create a convincing cover story to “help” the silent partners. Hopefully the reputation of the life support belt is damaged enough to keep people from using them. Only time will tell.>
The bridge is shown and Captain Decker is looking at the crews’ seats and his chair.
<Captain Decker – Ok. I’m giving everyone here permission to speak freely about the chairs.>
<Arex – They’re really uncomfortable.>
<Xon (disciplined) – There does seem a possibility of harming one’s back based on the design.>
<M’Ress – And there have been times I almost fell back because I keep forgetting that there’s nothing behind me.>
<Captain Decker – Yeah, I kinda feel like a jerk sitting on this chair that seems too majestic for my taste. I’ll have Scotty’s people do some work on them.>
The Enterprise is seen moving away.
