Message 2 – Sexual health

To practise safer sex, start with these simple steps:
- Talk to your partner about safer sex and STI testing.
- Use a condom, dental dam, or other barrier methods.
- Stay up to date on vaccinations.
- Learn about medications that can prevent HIV.

Message 3 – Sexual health

Make sexual health part of routine health checkups, understand your risk and get tested regularly for #STI if you’re sexually active.

#DYK: You can reduce your risk of getting #STI by using condoms and dental dams, getting tested regularly if you have new/multiple sexual partners, and talking openly with sexual partners about your sexual health history and theirs.

• Getting tested if you are sexually active

• Being non-judgmental when talking about sexual health

Message 7 – Syphilis transmission and possibility of reinfection

#Syphilis is a sexually transmitted infection (STI) and can be passed in different ways, including:

• genital, anal or oral sex

• sharing sex toys

• skin contact with a syphilis sore or rash

Syphilis can also be passed from a pregnant person to their baby during pregnancy or childbirth.

It’s possible to get syphilis more than once, even after you’ve been treated.

Using condoms and dental dams, getting tested regularly if you have new/multiple sexual partners, and talking openly with sexual partners about your sexual health history and theirs, can help reduce the chance of getting syphilis and passing it on.

Message 8 – Testing for syphilis

Symptoms of #Syphilis can sometimes go unnoticed, so it’s important to get tested regularly if you’re sexually active or have new/multiple sexual partners. Testing for syphilis is usually done using a blood test.

If you have questions or want to be tested for syphilis and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs), you can contact your:

• health care provider

• sexual health clinic

• local public health unit
