About The "Tacks Shelter" in the Banner
The "Tacks Shelter" in the banner photo of this page is a O'Neill Public Finance faculty hierloom started by Jeannie Patterson. Jeannie was the second faculty hire in 1972 for the school, and she taught governmental finance and accounting for 30 years. She handed the heirloom off to John L. Mikesell, and it now resides in 375E of the O'Neill School. The "T" on the label is the Greek letter "tau", the symbol usually used to depict an ad valorem tax rate in public finance theory.
