NATO membership is open to βany other European state in a position to further the principles of this Treaty and to contribute to the security of the North Atlantic area.β And three members of NATO are not in Europe, this includes North America, which is where Petite is located. So the question is, can Petite join?
The simple answer is no, Petite is not recognized by any NATO members or NATO partners and is technically disputed territory. But if Petite Became fully independent/recognized, could we join? Heres why we could and could not.
Why Petite Couldn't Join
Petite is not recognized by any NATO members or NATO partners.
Petite is technically disputed territory with a major member, the United States of America.
We are a "micro-nation", not a United Nations Member.
Countries like Spain have regions that consider themselves nations. Because of this, they would likely refuse to recognize Petite, since doing so could threaten their control over regions such as Catalonia.
Similar nations like Kosovo can't join for the same reasons as Petite.
Why Petite Could Join
We are in North America
Petite beliefs are very similar with members such as U.K and U.S.
We agree completely with NATO, such as supporting Ukraine and NATO's belief that "promotes democratic values and provides a permanent structure for its members to consult and cooperate on defense and security-related issues.".
Other small states with similar militaries as Petite have joined.
Petite has a larger Military than members like Iceland, and Petite does not need very much protection, this means NATO would gain more than they loss with the addition of Petite.
Petite is not hostile towards any members and supports most.
The NATO website states, "Collective defense is NATOβs most fundamental principle. Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty states that an armed attack against one NATO member shall be considered an attack against them all. Since 1949, this unwavering pledge has bound together a group of like-minded countries from Europe and North America, which have committed themselves to protecting each other in a spirit of solidarity." These same principles are the foundation for the Petite Founded Alliance, the UGMO (United Global Micro-Nations Organization). Since Petite already has kept its word with the UGMO members, it can be trusted by the NATO alliance.
In the end, it is very unlikely Petite will join the NATO alliance, but it is technically possible.
