Peter Kooreman (1955) studied viola with Pierre van der Schaaf, Gert Jan Leuverink and Andrew Sparrow. He was principal viola player in the Dutch National Youth Orchestra and member of the World Youth Orchestra conducted by Zubin Mehta. At that time he considered becoming a composer, but he opted for an academic career. He obtained degrees in econometrics and was a full professor at the universities of Wageningen, Groningen and Tilburg. Meanwhile he remained active as a viola player. However, the wish to compose never disappeared, and in 2011 Peter finally made his composition debut.
