Rest & Reconnect in Nature is a 90-minute guided nature therapy session designed to introduce participants to the restorative benefits of slowing down and mindfully engaging with the natural environment.
In alignment with Pesta Ubin’s theme, “Share the Island, Shape the Future,” this session offers a gentle and meaningful way for participants to develop a deeper relationship with nature and Pulau Ubin, not just as visitors, but as part of the ecosystem itself.
Rather than focusing on learning about nature, the session centers on direct experience. Through simple, guided practices such as sensory awareness, quiet observation, and reflective rest, participants are invited to slow down and reconnect with both the natural world and their inner landscape.
This approach supports personal wellbeing by reducing stress, enhancing presence, and improving mental clarity. At the same time, by experiencing nature as something we are part of rather than separate from, participants naturally cultivate a deeper sense of care, respect, and responsibility towards the environment.
The session is designed to be inclusive and accessible, with no prior experience required. It offers a calm, structured space for participants to rest, recharge, and engage with Pulau Ubin in a way that reflects the festival’s intention of environmental stewardship and shared responsibility.
Session Objectives:
• To encourage mindful presence and environmental appreciation
• To offer participants a restorative experience that supports mental and emotional wellbeing
• To foster a sense of connection and belonging with nature
• To introduce simple nature-based practices that participants can integrate into daily life
Suggested Session Flow:
1. Welcome & Introduction (10 mins)
Opening circle, grounding, and setting intentions for the session.
2. We Are Nature – Sensory Connection (15 mins)
Participants will be invited to mindfully select a natural element (e.g. leaf (no plucking), stone, twig) and explore it through guided sensory awareness (sight, touch, smell), followed by a short reflective meditation on interconnectedness.
3. Connecting with Nature – Banyan Tree Practice (25 mins)
Participants will be guided into a quiet, respectful interaction with the Banyan tree, including mindful observation, silent presence, and optional journaling or creative reflection. Emphasis is placed on awareness, respect for nature, and personal experience rather than instruction.
4. Integration – Deep Rest (15–20 mins)
A guided nature-based Yoga Nidra meditation practice to support deep relaxation, integration, and restoration.
5. Community Sharing (15 mins)
Optional group sharing to foster connection and collective reflection. This may be accompanied by a simple herbal tea offering (TBD)
Logistics:
• Outdoor space with nice grass patch (Location selected is the area with the large Banyan tree just after the volunteer hub and on the way to the butterfly trail, hopefully not too noisy)
• Participants will be seated and lying down for portions of the session including a moment of respectful interaction and contact with the Banyan tree.
• Participants will be advised to bring their own mats (yoga/picnic/sarong etc), water, sunscreen, insect repellent etc. and personal journal/notebook, pen
