# Privacy Policy
Last updated: 14.08.2026
The "Read Aloud, Translate & Export" extension does not collect, store on any server, or sell any personal user data. The extension has no backend server of its own — all code runs locally, on the user's own computer.
## What data is processed
- **Page text.** The extension reads the selected text, article text, or whole-page text in order to read it aloud or translate it. This text is processed locally, inside Chrome's built-in on-device AI (Gemini Nano) for translation, and is never sent anywhere — not to the developer's servers, not to any third party. (The separate Fact-check feature is described below and does not use this on-device AI.)
- **Settings.** Translation language, chosen voice, reading speed, and button order are saved via the browser's built-in storage (chrome.storage). This data is stored locally and synced across the user's own devices through their own Google account — the developer has no access to it.
## The "Share" feature
If the user chooses to send text to Telegram, WhatsApp, Viber, VK, email, or SMS, the extension opens that service with the text already filled in. This action is entirely initiated by the user; any further handling of the text happens on the side of the service the user picked, governed by that service's own privacy policy, not by this extension.
## The "Fact-check" feature
Turns the selected text into a clear question, automatically phrased in the user's own configured language, and opens it in the search engine the user picked in settings (Google, Bing, DuckDuckGo, or Yandex). No AI model is involved in this feature — the question is built with a simple, fully local template. The claim's text is only sent to the search engine the user chose, exactly as if the user had typed the query in themselves.
## The "Full-page screenshot" feature
Captures the entire scrolling page as one image, entirely on the user's device. The captured image is assembled locally in the browser and saved directly as a file — it is never uploaded anywhere or seen by the developer.
## What the extension does NOT do
- Does not collect browsing history
- Does not track user behavior
- Does not show ads
- Does not use analytics or trackers
- Does not require sign-up or an account
- Does not share data with third parties without a direct user action (the Share button)
## Extension permissions
- **storage** — used to store settings, as described above.
- **Access to page content (all sites)** — needed so the extension can read the selected text or page content regardless of which site is open. Without this permission, the extension's core function isn't possible.
## Changes to this policy
If how the extension handles data changes materially, this page will be updated and the date at the top will change.
