STATUS: CALL for PAPERS!

A Workshop at Percom 2024 (Biarritz, France, March 11-15, 2024)

A “tsunami” of aging populations is being anticipated, in many nations around the world, with anticipated increases in health costs to governments and individuals. While there have been tremendous innovations and creative developments in the use of technology for assisted-living, aged care and aging-in-place and for health support, there remain tremendous challenges, in terms of uptake, technology acceptance, and the maturity of the technologies themselves.

The range of technologies span many different areas, including AI/robotics, Internet of Things (IoT), Augmented/Virtual/Extended Reality, wearable and mobile computing, ambient intelligence, to name a few, which are all topics of interest to the pervasive computing community. Also, socio-ethical challenges of the use of such technologies are myriad.

As far back as 2002, Vince Stanford wrote an article on “Using Pervasive Computing to Deliver Elder Care” in IEEE Pervasive Computing magazine, but it is time to revisit Agetech in the light of pervasive computing developments in the past two decades.

The workshop aims to encourage thinking (and rethinking) of Agetech (technology for the aged and the aging) after decades of developments in pervasive computing, IoT, applied AI, and robotics and related technologies, and to provide a forum for researchers to come together share and discuss developments in the important area of Agetech within the context of pervasive computing. While pervasive computing researchers are encouraged to engage, the nature of the problems are multi-disciplinary. Hence, this workshop aims to provide a vehicle for bringing together researchers from diverse backgrounds, approaches and specializations (e.g., computer-human interaction, AI/robotics, ethics, ethnographical studies, aged care, health, transport, and so on) in a key international avenue, but with a focus on pervasive computing as the key concept bringing these technologies together.

Topics to be addressed, include, but are not limited to:

 Organizers / Co-Chairs

Important Dates

Paper Submissions: Submitted papers must be unpublished and not considered elsewhere for publication. Also, they must show a significant relevance to the workshop. Submitted papers will undergo a rigorous review process handled by the Organizers and the workshop's Program Committee. Only electronic submissions in PDF format will be considered.

The IEEE LaTeX and Microsoft Word templates, as well as formatting instructions, can be found here. Papers must be at most 6 pages of technical content (10pt font, 2-column format) including references, text, figures, and tables.

All workshop papers require a full registration.

We are considering selected papers for a special issue of a journal, and  there will be a best paper award (certificate)!
