Persuasive Language in the Age of AI
Persuasive language is a fundamental element of effective communication across fields such as marketing, political discourse, social media campaigns, education, and so on. With recent advances in NLP and artificial intelligence AI, it is now possible to enhance, analyze and even automate persuasive writing. These developments offer exciting possibilities but also raise important questions about creativity, authenticity and ethics. This special session examines the role of AI in the creation of persuasive language with a focus on practical applications, theoretical foundations and responsible use.
To understand how AI can support or reshape persuasive writing, it is essential to first consider what makes language persuasive. Key elements include clear and compelling arguments, emotional appeal, the credibility of the speaker, logical reasoning and an understanding of the audience’s values and expectations. Word choice, tone, repetition, rhetorical questions and storytelling are commonly used to strengthen the message. In AI-assisted writing, identifying and generating these elements effectively and ethically requires both linguistic insight and technological precision.
We welcome submissions on a wide range of topics related to persuasive language and AI, including but not limited to:
• Approaches to research on persuasive language
• AI applications in persuasive language use
• Ethical issues surrounding the use of AI in persuasive language research
• AI-assisted linguistic research on persuasive language
Submissions may address theoretical, methodological or practical dimensions. We encourage contributions that offer new insights into how persuasive strategies are constructed, interpreted or transformed through AI tools. Both empirical studies and conceptual frameworks are welcome, particularly those that examine real-world data, user interaction, or the broader implications of deploying AI in persuasive communication.
