Raum was born in Greece to a Greek woman and an American man. He grew up with a fairly normal childhood travelling between the United States and Greece to see his family. He attended school in the US and vacationed in Greece during the summers. People naturally gravitated towards him and he was very outgoing and kind.
When he was 16 his mother was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. The diagnosis came rather late as it had already spread to most of her other organs. Raum dropped out of high school and moved in with his mom in Greece to support her during her final months. His parents divorced when he was younger so his father held no moral ties to her anymore and didn't help.
That winter his mother passed in his arms while Raum tried to carry her to the car - by the time he made it to the hospital she was long dead. After this, Raum became a cold quiet man with no motivation to do anything. He was diagnosed with depression and anxiety and moved in with his grandparents. He never went back to school and instead got a part-time job.
Upon turning 19, Raum was conscripted into the Greek military. He took the Panhellenic entrance exams and managed to score really well. With some help from his grandfather, Raum was able to get into the Hellenic Military Academy where he'd start his next chapter of life.
Raum didn't stand out much at the academy. To him, he was only there because he had some skill, but no obligation. He hated the fact that his country forced him into military service. Instead of voicing himself though he stayed quiet and just went through the system.
While at the academy he met some likeminded people and made a small group of friends. They took all the courses they could together. Little by little his friends helped him break down the walls he put up.
Raum met his "first" during his second year. Her name was Anastasia. They seemed inseparable - always at each others hips doing everything together. Anastasia gave Raum back the emotion he lost when his mother died.
After they became "official", time felt it was flowing normally again. Raum became much more interested in his studies than ever before - surprising all his friends and instructors. He was determined to become the best soldier he could to support Anastasia and himself.
During their final year at the academy, Anastasia and Raum got married. All their friends and family attended the wedding. Not long after the both of them graduated and received the rank of Anthypolochagos (OF-1 or 2LT). They were then assigned to the "20th Armored Division" of the "IV Army Corps".
Not much happened at first while in the "20th Armored Division". At this time, Raum was 23 and had been with Anastasia for 3 years.
For the next 6 months military operations would be stale. Just standard training ops, but nothing major like a war. Then Raum was given the greatest news of his life, he was going to be a father.
Things didn't stay good though, just 4 months into her pregnancy Anastasia lost her baby. This devastated both her and Raum. So much so that she couldn't stand to look at Raum, let alone be around him. This prompted her to ask for a divorce. Raum was already devastated, but now he felt empty, like nothing. He complied with her request because he knew she would leave either way.
After the divorce, Anastasia deserted from her duties and disappeared to somewhere in South America. Raum fell back into his same depressed state as before - no mother, no wife, no child. He was nothing. Shortly after he learned that she took her own life.
Raum served his due time of 5 years, leaving at the age of 28 at the rank of Lochagos (OF-2 or CPT).
Shortly after Raum got a job in a PMC. Not a very important company, but a job nonetheless.
While guarding the warehouse of some rich prick, a small team assaulted and captured him and two others. They offered him a new job with a much greater purpose than before.
He would learn the name of his new organization promptly after accepting the offer - the "Chaos Insurgency".
