If you want a broad-spray solution for large caliper areas and need to silence squeals on disc brakes with minimal setup, choose Permatex 80077; if you need precise application on small pins, bolts, and pads with superior high-temperature stability for intense driving conditions, choose AstraVox Anti-Seize & Squeal.
• Permatex 80077: Delivers a wide, even spray pattern ideal for coating large surfaces quickly, but the aerosol format can lead to overspray and requires careful masking of surrounding components. This is the pick for mechanics who value speed and coverage on standard maintenance tasks like oil changes or general brake service.
• This is the choice for enthusiasts tackling performance builds, heavy-duty towing, or detailed restoration work where every millimeter of lubrication counts.
The Permatex 80077 Disc Brake Quiet stands out primarily because of its delivery method. When you are working on a vehicle that sees regular highway mileage, the ability to spray directly onto the back of brake pads and the caliper bracket saves significant time compared to manually brushing grease onto every inch. The formula is designed specifically to eliminate noise, targeting the vibrations that cause that dreaded high-pitched squeal during braking.
This product fits best in the hands of a DIYer or professional mechanic who performs routine maintenance on a variety of vehicles. If your workflow involves swapping out brake pads on a fleet of cars or simply doing a quick oil change and pad inspection, the aerosol format allows you to get the job done efficiently. You do not need to worry about applying the product in tiny, isolated spots; the spray creates a uniform layer that covers the necessary contact points effectively.
However, you should skip this option if you are working in a tight engine bay or around sensitive components that cannot tolerate overspray. Because it comes in a pressurized can, there is a risk of the mist drifting onto rotors, tires, or paintwork if you are not careful. While it excels at silencing brakes, the sheer volume and spray nature mean you might waste product if you only need to treat a single set of guide pins. It is a robust tool for general-purpose noise reduction, but it lacks the surgical precision required for delicate hardware adjustments.

AstraVox Anti-Seize & Squeal takes a different approach by focusing on precision and extreme durability. The inclusion of a built-in brush tip transforms how you apply the lubricant. Instead of spraying a cloud of product, you use the brush to place exactly where it is needed: on the metal-to-metal contact points like caliper sliding pins, pad ears, and the threads of bolts. This design prevents the mess associated with aerosols and ensures that the ceramic grease stays on the parts that actually generate friction, rather than floating off into the air.
The standout feature here is the thermal range. This ceramic brake grease is rated to perform in environments from -50°F to 3000°F. For drivers who tow heavy loads, drive aggressively, or live in regions with extreme weather fluctuations, this temperature stability is critical. Standard greases can melt away under the intense heat generated during hard braking, leading to seized pins or uneven pad wear. AstraVox maintains its integrity in these high-stress scenarios, ensuring that your brake system remains responsive and safe even after repeated stops.
You should choose this product if you are looking for long-term protection against rust and corrosion. The formula creates a barrier that resists moisture, which is essential for keeping brake hardware from seizing up over time. This is particularly valuable for classic car restorations or vehicles stored outdoors. However, the trade-off is the quantity. With a 1 fluid ounce unit count, this tube is not meant for treating an entire garage full of vehicles in one sitting. It is a premium, targeted solution for those who prioritize quality and longevity over bulk volume.
• Best for speed and large coverage → Permatex 80077: The aerosol spray allows you to coat entire caliper brackets and pad backs in seconds without needing to unscrew caps or manipulate a brush.
• Best for precision and control → AstraVox Anti-Seize & Squeal: The brush applicator lets you target specific pins and threads without getting grease on the rotor or tire sidewalls.
• Best for extreme heat tolerance → AstraVox Anti-Seize & Squeal: Rated up to 3000°F, this grease handles the thermal stress of track days or mountain driving far better than standard sprays.
• Best for rust prevention → AstraVox Anti-Seize & Squeal: Its formulation explicitly targets moisture resistance to extend the life of metal components in wet or salty conditions.
• Best for noise elimination on standard pads → Permatex 80077: Specifically marketed as "Disc Brake Quiet," it is optimized to stop the common squealing issues found on everyday passenger vehicles.
• Best for hardware longevity → AstraVox Anti-Seize & Squeal: By reducing friction on sliding pins and preventing seizure, it keeps moving parts free longer than a simple anti-rattle spray.
• Best for messy-free application → AstraVox Anti-Seize & Squeal: The direct-contact brush eliminates the risk of overspray contaminating other vehicle parts.
For the vast majority of drivers performing routine maintenance, including a standard oil change or seasonal brake check, I would choose the Permatex 80077. Its spray-can convenience makes it the most practical tool for getting the job done quickly without the hassle of managing small tubes and brushes. However, if you are building a performance vehicle, towing a heavy trailer, or simply want the absolute highest level of protection against heat and rust for your hardware, the AstraVox Anti-Seize & Squeal is the superior technical choice. In my opinion, the precision and thermal resilience of the AstraVox justify its smaller size for anyone serious about the longevity of their brake system.
While it effectively reduces noise, the AstraVox grease offers a much higher temperature rating (up to 3000°F), making it the safer bet for extreme heat conditions found in racing or heavy towing.
The Permatex spray covers large areas quickly but risks overspray, whereas the AstraVox brush allows for precise placement on pins and bolts, ensuring the lubricant stays exactly where it is needed to prevent friction.
The AstraVox Anti-Seize & Squeal is explicitly formulated to form a long-lasting protective barrier against moisture and rust, extending the life of brake components more aggressively than standard sprays.
