APPLICATION PERMISSIONS AND PURPOSE
To perform its core security functions, Permanent Data Eraser requires specific permissions on your device. Below is the full breakdown of why each permission is required:
MANAGE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE (All Files Access): Required to access, shred, and permanently overwrite selected files, folders, and free space on internal storage and SD cards.
READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE (Android 12 and below): Required to read and locate files on shared storage on older Android versions.
WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE (Android 10 and below): Required to overwrite and permanently shred files on older Android versions where All Files Access is not present.
READ_MEDIA_IMAGES: Required to scan and display photos and leftover thumbnails selected by you for permanent deletion.
READ_MEDIA_VIDEO: Required to scan and display videos and leftover thumbnails selected by you for permanent deletion.
READ_MEDIA_VISUAL_USER_SELECTED: Required on Android 14+ to process only the specific photos and videos you explicitly choose to shred.
POST_NOTIFICATIONS: Required to keep you informed of real-time erasing progress and completion status while the app operates in the background.
USE_BIOMETRIC: Required to confirm your identity via fingerprint or PIN lock before executing any permanent deletion operation.
FOREGROUND_SERVICE: Required to allow long-running file shredding tasks to continue uninterrupted when you switch away from the app.
FOREGROUND_SERVICE_SPECIAL_USE: Required to ensure critical, long-duration storage wiping jobs complete fully without corrupting or leaving storage half-written.
INTERNET: Used strictly to check for official app updates and load remote configuration settings. No personal files or usage data are transferred over this connection.
ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE: Required to check whether your device has an active internet connection prior to attempting update checks.
THIRD-PARTY SERVICES
The App uses third-party services that may collect information used to identify your device for analytics, performance monitoring, and advertising purposes.
