Performing Black Futures

Welcome! The Performance Studies Focus Group (PSFG) at the Association for Theatre in Higher Education (ATHE) invites you to PERFORMING BLACK FUTURES, the 2020 PSFG Postconference.

This postconference is cosponsored by the Black Theatre Association (BTA) and the LGBTQ Focus Group.

How might performance frame, archive, and expand notions of Black aesthetics and geographies, Black feminist and queer futures, and Afrofuturism? PERFORMING BLACK FUTURES takes up this central question through a keynote event with Detroit-based artists Salakastar, Franchesca Lamarre, and Biba Bell; performances, panels, and embodied engagements; and an anti-racist professionalization roundtable.

The post-conference will take place on Wednesday, August 5, 2020 to Sunday, August 9, 2020 ONLINE via zoom.

PERFORMING BLACK FUTURES is curated by Jasmine Jamillah Mahmoud and Krista K. Miranda.
