Perceptions Art @ Home Classes

Cost is $40 a class payable via PayPal (plus processing) or check

Starting in January 2021, Perceptions Yoga, Mindfulness & Art will offer monthly Art @ Home classes. Participants will receive an art kit of supplies each quarter delivered to their homes along with detailed written instructions and a journal prompt. They will then be provided access to the monthly class delivered live via Zoom and given a link to archived video footage of the class to revisit throughout the month.

Live classes will take place at 7 PM on the second Thursday of each month.

Each course is designed for beginners and will focus on an introduction to basic techniques so that no art experience or background is required. The first quarter classes will be: January - Introduction to Calligraphy, February - Winter Watercolor and March - Home Printmaking.

The cost is $40 billed monthly or $110 prepaid for the first quarter (January - March). This fee covers all supplies, shipping, instruction, and class materials. Class materials and art supplies for all three months will be shipped together in January before the first live Zoom class takes place.

Our Mission

Perceptions Yoga, Mindfulness and Art is a nonprofit organization that provides underserved populations, including our local community of Jennings County, Indiana, with the opportunity to pursue wellness, self-care, wholeness, and healing through the practices of trauma sensitive yoga, mindfulness and art.

Our Instructors

Karen Chilman, a lifelong resident of Jennings County, completed her 200 hour RYT training through YogaFit Teacher Training last September and her 140 Hours Warriors certification in trauma sensitive yoga in 2019. She recently completed her 100 hour certification in yoga for childhood trauma. She has been practicing yoga for over 25 years. She has four certifications in mindfulness teacher training through MindfulSchools.org and in addition to teaching high school art, owns and operates Swirlz Art Studio in Commiskey, Indiana. She currently serves as Lead Instructor and Vice President of Perceptions Yoga, Mindfulness & Art.

Charlinda Evans moved to Jennings County 26 years ago as a high school social studies teacher. She completed her 200 hour RYT certification in 2018 and YogaFit for Warriors certification in 2019 with 140 hours of training in trauma sensitive yoga. She recently completed her 100 hour certification in yoga for childhood trauma. She fell in love with yoga and began her practice seven years ago. She also completed classes through the mindfulness teacher training via MindfulSchools.org. She currently serves as President of Perceptions.

About Us

Formed in the summer of 2018, we are an organization with leadership experience, expertise, and passion. Our board, composed of seven like-minded women, has more than 100 years of experience teaching, working in public schools, or serving in the public sector. We have master’s degrees in areas such as art education, instructional systems technology, physical education, and business. Our instructors are certified 200 hour RYT with 140 hour certifications in trauma sensitive yoga, 100 hours certifications in trauma sensitive yoga for children, and 150 hours of mindfulness training, including MBSR. We are makers of positive change in our community, and as individuals have promoted art, mindfulness, education, and a sense of community for decades. In 2018, we realized that to make the greatest impact, we needed to formalize our efforts and create a nonprofit entity that would umbrella our passions. We are believers that “we must be the change that we want to see in the world.”
