Experimenting with IoT in the urban space: the case of Trikala
Internet-of-Things (IoT) has become a “booming” phenomenon for smart city (SC) and generates a great potential for city data collection and monitoring. This potential is being supported by several open and commercial protocols like GDP and LoRa respectively, has already affected several financial sectors (i.e., transportation, healthcare etc.), which enables promising smart service delivery and corresponding business model growth.
Although, today, IoT sounds trivial for SC and concerns one of SC’s primary hard facility, it is still under standardization, while cities explore its potential reluctantly. The aim of this speech is to present some background of IoT and SC, while it will present how the Greek SC of Trikala has approached this technology and aims to utilize it under the local strategy.
