Who we are:

People for a Healthy Environment (PHE) was founded in early 2010 as a New York State nonprofit organization by a group of concerned individuals committed to the health and well-being of local communities in Chemung and Steuben Counties. After fifteen years of activism, we continue to strive to preserve human health and planet vitality.

We worked at the grassroots level to ban dangerous hydrofracking and CO2 fracking in New York State, limit the toxicity of landfills, support renewable energy sources, stand up

to corporate greed, and advocate for just and sustainable public policies. We educate the public, rally, march, protest, and lobby elected officials to achieve our goals.

We understand that the health of our environment is inextricably related to the health and well-being of our local communities. We continue to fight for clean air, pure water, tillable land, and a livable climate. Our intention is to foster an environmentally sustainable, spiritually fulfilling, and socially just human presence in our area and on the Earth.

We are your neighbors, all unpaid volunteers. We are of various political and ideological stripes, but we are unified in our commitment to stop the further pollution of our communities and ensure the rapid transition to local renewable economies. We hold community forums, attend local meetings, bring lawsuits against offending townships and corporations, and work with local municipalities.
