Fall 2025
Bootcamp
Hi there! Our usual start-of-year bootcamp will be held over two days:
Monday September 8th, 7:00 - 9:00 pm
Monday September 15th, 7:00 - 9:00 pm

We encourage all new and returning members to attend bootcamp as a refresher, but you may join at any point in the semester.
Regular Classes
We meet on-campus each Monday except for holidays. The location is always on campus, and will be emailed each week.
7 - 8 pm: Beginner class.
Covers technique such as the posture, the embrace and the walk, plus basic figures.
8 - 9 pm: Intermediate class
Covers more intricate figures, playing with musicality, and social floorcraft.
9 pm onwards: open práctica/practice
Music in the background, Q&A with the instructor, practice what was just taught or hash out figures seen elsewhere.
All members may attend one or both classes for the same semester fee and regardless of their level.
Membership
Membership is only open to existing club members or those with an active affiliation with Penn.
This includes Penn students of all divisions (including Online and exchange), faculty, staff, postdocs, and visiting scholars.
FAQs
No partners, experience, or special footwear is required to join.
Club dues are currently $40/semester for all students, and $80 for non-student Penn affiliates. With about 14 meetings each semester, this is the best tango deal in town.
You may dance any role you wish (and you may switch!), regardless of your gender.
We encourage but do not enforce partner switching for faster learning.

Spring 2025 Past Events
As a club, we attend outside events together and coordinate to save costs. The major events this past spring are posted below.
May 23-26: Philadelphia Argentine Tango Festival
The largest tango event of each year in the area, organized by the privately-run Philadelphia Argentine Tango School and running 4 days across Memorial Day Weekend.
The theme this year was Celebrating Aníbal Troilo, an Argentine bandoneon player, composer, and bandleader whose influence persists despite his passing 50 years ago.

April 28th: Spring End-of-Term Milonga
Come join us from 7 - 10:30 pm in the Hall of Flags! Snacks and drinks will be served.
$15 general admission, free for members.
Come say goodbye to your friends before we resume in the fall!

March 28th - March 30th: Yale Tango Festival
This year, we are excited to be invited to the Yale Tango Festival in New Haven.
The tango clubs at Harvard, MIT, Brown, Columbia, Princeton, GWU, and Bard will also be in attendance.
To keep workshop sizes manageable, this event will be open to members only.

February 22nd: Milonga Alternativa
This milonga (social dance) is held on every fourth Saturday of the month.
Time: Saturday Feb 22nd, 5 pm
Location: Pivot Ballroom at 49 E Lancaster Ave, Ardmore
Tickets: $10 for students, $20 for general admission. Cash or Venmo at the door.
This milonga is open to the wider Philadelphia community, and there will be LIVE music by the ChoYeon Tango Quartet.
Jan 27th and Feb 3rd: Spring Boot Camp
*Drumroll please* Get ready for boot camp!!
This semester, we are bringing back our start-of-term boot camp as a refresher for current dancers and an intro for folks new to tango.
The times will be:
Monday, Jan 27th in Bodek Lounge, 7:00 - 9:30 pm
Monday, Feb 3rd in Bodek Lounge, 7:00 - 9:30 pm
The material for both days will be different, and will be taught by our house instructors, Jake and Dasha.
There will be short breaks in between, but no divisions between the beginner vs intermediate sections; just a progression from easier to harder.
Both sessions are included if you renew club membership for the semester.
For non-members, if you are a Penn student, the first session will be free and the second will be $10.
If you are neither a member nor a student, both sessions will be $10 each.
Payments are accepted at the door with Venmo.
Jan 31st - Feb 2nd 2025: Intercambio de Tango at Princeton University
We are excited to announce that Princeton will again be hosting their annual Intercambio de Tango, a festival of lectures, workshops and milongas.
The Harvard, MIT, Yale, Columbia, and Caltech clubs among others will also be joining. This is part of a wider effort to link up the student tango clubs along the East Coast.
No matter your dance experience, this would be a great first festival to experience. The student rate is only $125 and there is an opportunity to volunteer for ~8 hrs for a free festival pass. An additional perk for those signing up before Dec 25th, 2024 is the chance to win a free private lesson.
