As we all know that there are almost 100 large or small islands in Penghu. The geological origin of penghu is due to the elimination of pressure in the late stage of plate movement, cracks occur in different periods of land cracking, then the magma overflows from the fissure to form the Penghu Islands. Because the basalt lava flows in different directions, after cooling, various columnar joints are formed, and magnificent columnar basalts can be easily found around the islands.
In addition to various basalt landscapes, Penghu has large and small beaches and sand mouths, dykes, maar instead of crater residue or ruins and various sea erosion topography (sea erosion grooves, sea caves, sea erosion arches, sea erosion columns and sea erosion platforms).
And, the remains or ruins derived from/between human and basalt such as fish traps, wind-proof wall for vegetables and Cimei archeological Stone Factory, together with valuable and abundant marine resources, conservation animals such as sea turtles, and terns.., all sorts of the above elements made Penghu Islands have the ticket to UNESCO global Geopark.
