Important: If you have other settings like Web & App Activity turned on and you pause Location History or delete location data from Location History, you may still have location data saved in your Google Account as part of your use of other Google sites, apps, and services. For example, location data may be saved as part of activity on Search and Maps when your Web & App Activity setting is on, and included in your photos depending on your camera app settings. Web & App Activity can include info about your location from your device's general area and IP address.

I noticed "Frequent Locations" while rummaging through my settings on my iOS device. I'm trying to build an app that basically combs through your location history, either by social network or by your device, and determines if you were at a particular event. Does apple provide an API to access your recent frequent locations on your device? I read through this documentation but didn't see anything about location history.

From reading the Apple API reference guide it looks like 'locationmanager(_:didVisit:)' would provide the information you're looking for. It would provide data on locations that the user was in for a extended period of time.

I have a client that I am trying to sell MDM on and they were not really concerned with the currently location of the device but rather a history of locations. Is this currently possible or being thought about?

You could also use the API to routinely pull and externally save/store location info . For privacy purposes, SM will not do this itself. If at some point it is supported by apple and android in their APIs for MDM, that could change!

I think you misunderstood my question.. I've already done that part. What i need is the next step, to get the location of the "found" device. I imagine the url would be something like networks/N_xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx/sm/device/[serial]/location

Your carrier will always have a general idea of where you are to ensure phone calls come to you. For everything else, you must turn off Location Services. On Android: Swipe down from the top of the screen > tap the location icon (looks like an upward-facing teardrop with a dot in it) > Location Services > change Improve Location Accuracy to on or off. For iOS: Open the Settings app > Privacy & Security > Location Services > Location Services has a main switch, or you can swipe to see which apps have access to your location (and you can turn them on or off as you see fit).

No, but if you had previously tracked them with their permission via Find My... then it should show you the last location. Open Find My > People (lower left corner). Their last location will be available.

Background: Environmental exposures are commonly estimated using spatial methods, with most epidemiological studies relying on home addresses. Passively collected smartphone location data, like Google Location History (GLH) data, may present an opportunity to integrate existing long-term time-activity data.

Microsoft operates a location service that helps determine the precise geographic location of your Windows device. The precise location of your device allows apps to give you directions, show shops and restaurants that are near you, and more.

If you have turned on Location services, your device sends location information (including wireless access point information, cellular tower information, and precise GPS location if available) to Microsoft after removing any data identifying the person or device before leaving the device. This de-identified copy of location information is used to improve Microsoft location services and, in some instances, shared with our location service provider partners, currently HERE and Skyhook, to improve the location services of the provider.

If an app or feature accesses the device's location and you are signed in with your Microsoft account, your last-known location information is also saved to the cloud, where it is available across your devices to other apps or services that use your Microsoft account and for which you've granted permission. Some Windows apps and services that use location info also use your location history.
