Amidst the Israel-Gaza conflict and the escalating war on Gaza there is an urgent need to witness, document and hold to account. Our current response is to work with a coalition of partners, including SMEX and Meedan, to ensure critical resources and guidance are widely accessible and available.

In April 1984, an Amish community outside Lancaster, Pennsylvania, attends the funeral of Jacob Lapp, who leaves behind his wife Rachel and eight-year-old son Samuel. Rachel and Samuel travel by train to visit Rachel's sister, which takes them into Philadelphia. While at 30th Street Station waiting for a connecting train, Samuel goes into the men's room and witnesses the brutal murder of an undercover police officer.

The next day, Schaeffer, McFee, and another corrupt cop, Ferguson, arrive at the Lapp farm, taking Rachel and Eli hostage. Book tricks Ferguson into the corn silo and suffocates him under tons of corn, then uses Ferguson's shotgun to kill McFee. Schaeffer holds Rachel and Eli at gunpoint, but Eli signals to Samuel to ring the farm's bell. Book confronts Schaeffer, who threatens to kill Rachel, but the bell summons the neighbors. With so many witnesses present, Schaeffer surrenders and Book arrests him.

Since 2011, legal scholars, political scientists and mathematicians conducting gerrymandering research have served as expert witnesses in more than 250 state and federal court cases regarding redistricting.

We believe that the next stage of human rights documentation and advocacy will be powered by videos created and shared by eyewitnesses. Our work addresses the challenges of finding, verifying, and contextualizing those videos.

This project examines how human rights advocates and journalists can turn the proliferation of eyewitness and perpetrator video into more ethical and effective storytelling and documentation of human rights abuse in the MENA.

Witness seeks original fiction, nonfiction, and poetry that is innovative in its approach, broad-ranging in its concerns, and unapologetic in its perspective. The magazine is issue-oriented and aims to highlight the role of the modern writer as witness to their times. We publish issues both in print and online, and we pay our writers. Witness also seeks cover artwork, occasional interior artwork, and has historically been lauded for the photo essays featured in our print issues.

As part of its search for signs of ancient life on Mars, Perseverance is the first rover to bring a sample caching system to the Red Planet that will package promising samples for return to Earth by a future mission. This series of images shows NASA's Perseverance rover inspecting and sealing a "witness" sample tube on June 21, 2021 (the 120th sol, or Martian day, of the mission), as it prepares to collect its first sample of Martian rock and sediment.

Witness tubes are similar to the sample tubes that will hold Martian rock and sediment, except they have been preloaded with a variety of materials that can capture molecular and particulate contaminants. They are opened on the Martian surface to "witness" the ambient environment near sample collection sites. With samples returned to Earth in the future, the witness tubes would show whether Earth contaminants were present during sample collection. Such information would help scientists tell which materials in the Martian samples may be of Earth origin.

The United States Attorney's Office Victim/Witness Assistance Program was developed to ensure that victims of federal crimes are treated with fairness and respect as they journey through the federal criminal justice system. This program carries out the mandates of the Federal Victim and Witness Protection Act of 1982, the Victims' Rights and Restitution Act of 1990, the Victims of Child Abuse Act of 1990, the Justice for All Act of 2004 and other victim related legislation. These victim/witness assistance and protection laws apply to all victims and witnesses of federal crime who have suffered physical, financial, or emotional trauma.

Perseverance carries five "witness tubes" along with sample collection tubes. The witness tubes are similar to the sample tubes except they are pre-loaded with a variety of witness materials that can capture molecular and particulate contaminants, such as:

One at a time, the witness tubes will be opened on the Martian surface to "witness" the ambient environment near sample collection sites. They are exposed to the local environment where samples are collected and they go through the motions of drilling and other movements that the sample containers experience. The witness tubes do not, however, collect soil or rock samples. The witness tubes will also be sealed and cached like the actual Mars samples.

In the future, if the Perseverance samples are returned to Earth for analysis, the witness tubes will show whether Earth contaminants were present during sample collection. This will help scientists tell which materials in the Martian materials may actually be of Earth origin.

He manages to drive them all back to the Amish lands of Pennsylvania before collapsing from loss of blood.

The primary purpose of the Victim Witness Program is to provide information and support to victims and witnesses of crimes and to ensure that the services under Chapter 950 of the Wisconsin Statutes are made available to them.

The period following a crime can be very difficult. Although everyone reacts differently, many victims and witnesses report that they feel shock, confusion, numbness, disbelief, anger, or other emotions after the incident. You may be having similar feelings, in addition to dealing with physical, financial, and psychological concerns related to the crime. At the same time, the criminal justice system is likely to need you to take part in the court process, so that the person(s) responsible for the crime can be held accountable.

The primary purpose of the Victim/Witness Program is to provide information, referral and support to citizens and law enforcement officers of Walworth County who have been victims of or witnesses to crimes, and to ensure that the services specified under Chapter 950, Wisconsin Statutes, are made available to them. To achieve that end, the Victim/Witness staff, upon request, will maintain contact with victims and witnesses to update them on case progress in the criminal justice system.

B. For any will executed on or after October 1, 2019, unless the will is made self-proved as prescribed in section 14-2504 or 14-2519, a person may not act as a witness to a will if that person is a devisee under that will or is related by blood, marriage or adoption to a devisee under that will.

The Wisconsin Constitution and Wisconsin Statutes Chapter 950 provide crime victims and witnesses with rights. The Dane County District Attorney's Office Victim Witness Unit assists victims by providing information and services consistent with these laws and in a manner that honors a victim's rights to dignity, respect, courtesy, sensitivity, and fairness while striving to be culturally sensitive and trauma-informed in delivery. Victim Witness Unit staff are available to crime victims throughout the criminal court process to provide information about court proceedings, as well as offer support, referrals and advocacy along the way. If you have been a victim of a crime please feel free to contact the Victim Witness Unit at 608-266-9003 to inquire as to your rights and services that may be available to you.

Often victims and witnesses learn additional information important to the pending case. Please give this information immediately to the investigating police officers and prosecutor. The Victim Witness Unit can assist you in contacting the attorney assigned to your case.

Victims and witnesses have the right to discuss cases with defense attorneys or investigators. Victims and witnesses have the right to ask that a police officer or prosecutor be present during the interview. Always ask for identification from any person who wants to discuss a pending case.
