The tournament director was a no-nonsense army vet. As hundreds of parents sat hushed in the playing hall, he glared at us, and issued a stern warning: “If you peek through the curtains during the tournament, we will spray you with water, like they do when training kittens.”

Next, some parents positioned themselves next to the cracks in the curtains. Alas, that was not enough. Finally, some bold parent or two decided to break the taboo and peek through the curtains since clearly the rules didn’t apply to them.

At the end of the second day, I was getting concerned. Jacob was only using 15-20 minutes out of his 90 minutes. As we walked back to our hotel, I stressed to him again how important it was to use the time. Moving too fast was the same as letting his opponent have an extra piece, I explained. That didn’t seem to get through.

I looked at the chess clock in his hand. It showed he only used about 15 minutes of his time. In an instant, many thoughts flashed through my mind. About how he didn’t follow the process. How I was spending time and money taking him to the Nationals and he wasn’t even willing or able to take full advantage of the opportunity. How he short-changed his ability to play his best by rushing through the game.

I've wanted this for a while. In no zombie movie, ever, do you see a character throw the blinds or curtains wide open just to take a peak out, unless they're trying to get noticed. You peek out, and that minimizes your chances of being seen. A few possibilities for implementation, as mentioned above: Decreased view range out the window, but decreased or no chance of being seen by zombies; Another option is that you have to stay "peaking" for a while while your sight range slowly expands. However it's implemented, this would add not only to the gameplay but also to the immersion of the game.

I was doing my usual perusal of the Youtube channels I follow, when in the middle of a vdeo of the Extra Credits channel related to digital games they start talking about this very human and strange behaviour - why do many people hide their faces behind their hands in a terror/stress situation, but then peek through the fingers?

I'm really happy and excited to announce that My Snow Globe: A Sparkly Peek-Through Story is now available! I am very pleased with how they came out! Scholastic did a great job producing this adorable die-cut board book, which features thick pages for little hands and lots of peek through windows with sparkly snowflakes. The story, written by Megan E. Bryant, follows a red cardinal daddy on his flight through the snowy woods to his cozy home where his family awaits.

I had to be sure to design the illustrations so that they made sense with the story, of course. But I also had to make sure they worked visually both independently as well as in conjunction with exposed parts of the other spreads. For example, as you can see above, when you look at the cover, you can see portions of all the following spreads through the round window. As you turn each page you see a different composition of shapes of the remaining spreads. Also, when you turn the page, the illustration has to work on both sides of it -- so the left side pages of the book become the mirror cut out shapes of the preceding right side pages!

Fly along with Bee on her very busy day! Peek through the holes of this bright and lively book and discover the bustling life of this helpful insect. Children will love discovering how bees are a vital part of our planet's health, pollinating plants to help them grow. They'll also see inside a buzzy hive and learn how bees work together on their important tasks.

From the popular series that launched with Tree: A Peek-Through Picture Book comes a book with peek-through holes that show the moon's different phases with each turn of the page.

Over deserts and forests, Arctic tundra and tropical beaches, the moon shines down on creatures around the world. Children will love discovering how it changes from day to day as the lunar cycle is shown through clever peek-through holes, each revealing the moon in a different size and shape.

Weed competitive ability of a crop is one of the most widely explored aspects in the current scenario of aftermaths of synthetic herbicides such as herbicide resistant weeds emergence, residue accumulation in trophic levels; increased demands of organic produce, global climatic shifts, and other environmental issues. Further weed infestations are known to cause much more economic losses relative to crop attacks by pests. To understand the basic characteristics and underlying processes governing the competitive ability of a crop is therefore prudent, particularly in staples such as wheat. We discuss here an overview of the existing attributes of wheat-weed environment, the significance of crop competitiveness and various associated above-ground and below-ground traits (pertaining to early seed vigor and early seedling germination) discerned through biological, classical genetics and high throughput omics toolbox to provide numerous resources in terms of genome and transcriptome sequences, potential QTLs, genetic variation, molecular markers, association mapping studies, and others. Competitiveness is a cumulative response manifested as morphological, physiological, biochemical or allelochemical response ultimately driven through genetic architecture of a crop and its interaction with environment. Development of wheat competitive cultivar thus requires interdisciplinary approaches and germplasm screening to identify potential donors for competitiveness is an attractive and feasible alternative. For which utilization of landraces and other wild species, already proven to house sufficient genetic heterogeneity, thus poses a competitive advantage. Further, the availability of novel breeding techniques such as rapid generation advance could speed up the development of competitive wheat ideotype.

Inside the card, I added the two flowers and stems, positioning them so that they showed through the window. I also stamped and die cut the phrase from the Get Well Soon stamp set and coordinating die set.

When we find a gem of a book in my household, we tend to gather up any titles that accompany it. My children enjoy how some of the animals make an appearance in multiple titles (the inquisitive foxes are a family favorite). They also love comparing the shape and placement of the die-cuts in each book: in Tree, the owl steadily peeks out from its hollow on nearly all the pages, while fish-shaped openings flit every which way on the pages of Ocean.

Coming to the end of our history tour through transparency programs, we have WindowTop. WindowTop is still receiving updates at the time of writing, and it's developed with modern-day versions of Windows 10 in mind. Older versions of Windows and Windows 10 can still download a less feature-packed version.

You can activate window transparency in one of two ways. You can press the shortcut (ALT+A, which is changeable by clicking the toolbar icon) or you can hover your mouse over the top of a window and click the down arrow that appears, then select "Opacity." WindowTop also has the click-through feature that Peek Through has.

When you boot up the software, you'll find the automatic transparency options first and foremost. These allow you to tweak how windows act under certain conditions. Do you want windows to start up transparent? Do you want all inactive windows to be see-through? How about when you hover your mouse over them? You can toggle these options on and off, as well as setting individual transparency levels for each action.

In the fast-paced world of cybersecurity, staying ahead of threats is essential. And while security is without a doubt a priority for businesses of all sizes, it is easy to feel overwhelmed by all the information available. At CISA, we have been diligently developing a solution aimed at simplifying the way our partners and potential collaborators understand their cyber risk and prioritize their investments, ensuring they can quickly navigate this complexity with ease. Our focus has been on making the process of working with us more intuitive and user-friendly so that every organization can spend more time meeting business goals and less time sifting through cybersecurity resources. We believe this approach will be especially helpful for smaller to medium sized stakeholders with fewer resources, who need help prioritizing actions to help them to reduce the likelihood and impact of damaging intrusions.

In advance of performances on February 2 at Quiet Cannon in Montebello, February 3 at Regency West in Leimert Park, and February 8 at Center Theatre Group's Kirk Douglas Theatre, take a peek into the process that went into creating Through the Looking Glass with two excerpts of work written by one participant from each community.

'Find the Wolf' is another great 'peek through' book by Agnese Baruzzi. Being a board book, it easily withstood the initial browsing by my one year son and I can see this book being revisited when he is slightly older as there are many levels to it. The book follows the pattern of looking for the wolf by looking through the peek holes, with each page focussing on a different body part. I really like the 'wanted' poster each time and I could easily see myself using this text within my year 1 classroom when covering this text type. The way the parts of the pictures seen through the peek holes blend into the whole picture once turned is fantastic and I found use of trying to work out just what part was used. The added bonus of this book is the chance to go through the book again and hunt for the wolf or paws that are woven into the pictures. A very enjotyable read. Board book / Ages 0+ / Reviewed by Kyle Matravers, teacher.

MassChallenge is currently located in another historic building, the former Alliance school near Machane Yehuda. Rather than a full building conversion, that structure just went through minor upgrades for temporary usage by a few organizations. But they will soon need a new permanent home, and this building will likely be it. The exterior of the new building will largely be preserved as is, but a few changes include raising the roof slightly and adding a glass-roofed events space on the upper floor of the back building. When complete, this project will likely be one of the major centers of tech activity in Jerusalem, especially given its proximity to the new City Entrance Jerusalem Business District, and to the high speed train from Tel Aviv. ff782bc1db
