Pure Data patch created for the master's dissertation "Soundin'Place - Promoting the creation of sound narratives in a pedagogical context".
This dissertation seeks to expand the range of pedagogical tools by using musical technology to develop a critical listening of soundscapes and skills in sound narratives. Its application would be made in a pedagogical context, targeting children from the first cycle of elementary education.
Soundin’Place promotes the development of a critical listening from the interpretation, evaluation and response to sources and concepts of space and time in the creation of soundscapes with different sound objects. A heuristic evaluation was made, and its analysis allows a perception of the flaws that may exist, in terms of programming or aesthetics.
The user controls a set of parameters, adjusting the behaviour of each sound object, thus creating his own sound narrative. As its purpose is to be used in a pedagogical context, sessions were also created so that different theoretical foundations could be transmitted to students.
By exploring sound objects and different ways of controlling their behaviour, it is proposed that there is a promotion of cognitive development as a dynamic classroom activity.
Note: the original goal of this project was to create a Reactable to be used in a live environment. It had to be changed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
