The Women Behind the Peanut Butter Classic

The Peanut Butter Classic was started by Heather Forsyth (former MLA). Heather wanted to do something to encourage women helping women and children. She called a group of passionate friends and together they formed a charity golf tournament.

They chose a woman’s charity to support and also decided to collect for food bank donations. When Heather called the Calgary Food Bank, the number one item required at the time was peanut butter. This was the inspiration for the unique name for this charity golf classic.

Heather remains incredibly proud of what this wonderful group of dedicated women has been able to accomplish over the last 16 years. The Peanut Butter Classic has raised over $1.8 million dollars to help women and children and has provided thousands of jars of peanut butter to the Calgary Food Bank!

Shane Homes is our presenting sponsor of the tournament. Under the leadership of Shane Wenzel, President of Shane Homes, they not only donate money, they also quietly do the repairs and maintenance at Alcove Residences.

The Calgary Firefighters have been supporters of the Peanut Butter Classic since inception. In 2018 the Peanut Butter Classic decided to add the FACS as one of our recipient charities.

It takes a team of committed ladies to pull off the Peanut Butter Classic each year. The following is our 2019 board roster.

"I feel strongly about giving back to women and their families. I believe this ladies only golf tournament is a fun and unique way to make a difference."

PBC Board Member (2003)

"This is my first year sitting on the PBC Board and I’m so proud to be part of a committee that gives 98% of the donations back to the charity!

I played in this tournament for the first time last year and was so impressed with the organization, that I asked if I could jump on “board”. "

Nicole Castle

PBC Board Member (2018)

"I was first made aware of PBC through a client who is a long-time sponsor and advocate of the tournament. After participating as a golfer for a couple years, I knew I wanted to be a bigger part of this initiative. The charity recipient, Alcove Addiction Recovery for Women, is what made it that much more important to me. A member in my family has fallen victim to addiction, and everything that Alcove stands for hits very close to home for me. I want to be able to support fundraising where 98% of those funds raised go to the charity, and better yet a charity that works to help mother’s recover with the love and support of their children."

Terri Lawrence

PBC Board Member (2018)

"I volunteer to share my skills and experiences and to contribute to making our community a better place. As an active member of the PBC board since 2012 I have enjoyed the friendships and teamwork of an amazing group of women who care deeply about helping women and children in need. "

"Participating in the PBC for many years and now on the organizing committee, I look forward to another successful year. As the city grows, so does the need for women to find respite and care at Alcove Recovery. I am proud to be involved with this worthwhile cause. What a difference a day makes!"

Heather Davies

I am sincerely privileged to be part of PBC. "
