Bright sunlight poured down from the clear sky, breaking into shimmering golden rays through the dense canopy of trees. Lin Yuan leaned against a thick tree trunk, holding a bamboo basket  in his left hand and nibbling on a bright red fruit with his right. 

The fruit was soft and juicy, both sweet and sour. Lin Yuan couldn’t help squinting his eyes in pleasure, and his white cat ears and tail swayed happily. 

521 sat on his head and poked the twitching ear with the tip of its wings: “Senior~ Can I rub your ears?” Its voice was a little excited. The fluffy ears looked so soft, it wanted to touch~

Lin Yuan flicked 521 off his head and huffed: “No! Only my husband can touch my ears.”

When 521 heard the word ‘husband’, it instantly turned into a sour cannonball and screamed: “Ahhh! Don’t mention your husband! I hate your husband!! I hate him!! Because of him, Senior, you have zero points now! Zero!!”

Cultivators had very long lifespans, and Lin Yuan stayed in that world for over nine hundred years.

Beastmen were divided into male and female, which had nothing to do with gender. Instead, at the age of ten, each beastman would awaken an animal form. 

Most of the males awakened into strong, ferocious creatures, while females awakened into small and demure animals. In human form, beastmen would retain some animal characteristics. 

For example, Lin Yuan was a female beastman. His animal form was a white cat with golden eyes, and in his human form, his eyes remained golden, his hair was white, and he kept his cat ears and tail.

The more animal features one retained in human form, the less liked they were by the Beast God, so in this world, Lin Yuan was disliked by most males. This was why although Lin Yuan was already an adult, no young males pursued him.

The protagonist of this world was named Yan. He was the child of the tribe’s chief and the most beautiful female in the tribe. Since he awakened, countless strong males tried to pursue him. 

Yan was very arrogant, and felt that the males in the tribe weren’t worthy of him. He wanted to marry a male from a bigger tribe. 

Then during the Beast God Festival, Yan met Tian, the heir to the White Tiger Tribe, and they fell in love. 

Tian was a playboy who liked the new and hated the old, so even when he was in a relationship with Yan, he never stopped seeing other females. But after Yan became pregnant, Yan ran away with a big belly, which made Tian unable to forget him. 

Years later, they met again, but Yan already had another male partner and was raising two cubs, with one being Tian’s offspring, and the other being his current mate’s. Tian wanted to get back together with Yan, but Yan refused. 

Later, one of Tian’s subordinates who wanted to curry favor with Tian deliberately caused an accident during a hunt that killed Yan’s current mate. While Yan grieved, Tian took advantage of the situation to get close to Yan again. Even after finding out the truth behind his mate’s death, Yan didn’t blame Tian, saying it wasn’t directly his fault. 

Then their love story continued. 

The villain of this world was named Yue, a slave who Yan exchanged for during a tribal meeting. 

Yue’s beast form was a giant snake, and in this world, cold-blooded animals were considered the reincarnation of demons. From the moment they awakened, they were marked as slaves. 

Yan often beat and scolded Yue for no reason, and also forced Yue to fight his suitors, leaving Yue covered in injuries. He also never let Yue eat meat, which was pure torture for predators. 

Under constant oppression and pain, Yue blackened. When winter arrived, he lured a horde of wild beasts to the tribe, wiping out everyone including himself.

After reading the plot, Lin Yuan felt an incoming headache. 

Yan was an extremely arrogant female. If Lin Yuan walked up and offered to trade something for Yue, Yan would definitely not agree and make things more difficult. 

He needed to find something Yan couldn’t resist, while simultaneously pretending not to care, so that Yan would feel like he was benefiting.

Lin Yuan picked a second fruit and took a bite. Pale, red juice trickled down from the corner of his mouth, but he didn’t notice at all.

He continue his gathering task, picking tree fruits while also searching the forest for cooking ingredients, only stopping when the other female beastmen called him to return to the tribe.

Their tribe was called the Creek Forest Tribe, because it was located in front of the forest and a creek. 

In their tribe, the gathering team consisted of young females, elderly, and children, who split into two teams and went out to gather on alternating days. Lin Yuan and the protagonist Yan were not in the same team. 

The tribe’s main plaza was located in a mountain pass, and each beastmen’s houses were caves carved into the mountain walls.

There was minimal vegetation around the plaza, and at the center was a wooden platform which served as an altar. Whenever something significant happened in the tribe, the chief and priest would stand on the platform and announce it. Around the plaza stood wooden shelters covered with animal hide that stored firewood and other supplies.

The warriors of the tribe went hunting every other day, and today was one of those days. By the time the gathering team returned, the hunters had already come back and were busy in the corner of the plaza. 

Lin Yuan followed the other female beastmen to do tasks around the tribe. When the prey was divided, he received four pounds of meat. This was considered a small portion, since most beastmen had big appetites, for example, an adult male beastman needed to eat dozens of pounds of meat in one meal to be full. 

Because Lin Yuan still retained many of his cat-like features, the tribe didn’t favor him, but they didn’t mistreat him, others just didn’t talk to him much. 

Carrying his portion of meat, Lin Yuan first went to the creek to wash it, and then roasted it in the plaza like the others. 

The smell of roasted meat was tolerable, but the air was still thick with the stench of blood from cutting the raw meat just before. 

Seeing the meat being roasted, Lin Yuan was already expecting it would taste bad. He sniffed the roasted meat cautiously and teared off a small piece and put it in his mouth. 

However even if he had expected it, Lin Yuan was still shocked as he chewed.

The meat was tough, dry, and all of his taste buds were filled with a gamey and rancid taste.

There was absolutely no flavor, because they didn’t even put any salt!

Lin Yuan had been human for a long time and had even survived the apocalypse, but he had never suffered this kind of grievance. With teary eyes, he forced himself to eat a pound of meat just so he wouldn’t starve, and then refused to eat any more.

He kept another pound of meat for tomorrow, and the remaining two pounds were for Yue.

Slaves like Yue weren’t allowed to live in their master’s cave. The tribe’s members lived in communal caves, which at least provided shelter from the wind and rain, but the slaves of the tribe lived in makeshift huts far away from the plaza. 

When night fell, Lin Yuan felt lucky that his beast form was a cat, giving him good night vision. 

He snuck over into Yue’s hut and carefully crawled inside. 

Yue had long sensed something approaching, a small female, but when the female entered his hut, he couldn’t believe his senses. 

The inside of the hut smelled terrible, a bloody and foul stench. Lin Yuan couldn't help wrinkling his nose and sneezing softly.

Lin Yuan rubbed his nose and looked at the man lying on the ground. 

Yue was very tall, over two meters, and his skin was very pale, whiter than other male beastmen. But now the pale skin was covered with blue and purple bruises and even bleeding wounds.

His facial features were pointed and sharp, and his face was very handsome. Probably because his beast form was a snake, so his aura seemed cold and eerie. 

Lin Yuan stared at Yue for a while and then sat down slowly. He put aside the things he brought and then lay down next to Yue, pressing close against the man’s neck to feel his presence.

Yes! This was his husband~

After confirming, Lin Yuan poked Yue’s face and his voice was as soft as a kitten’s mewl: “Yue… Yue, wake up…”

Yue had no idea what this little female wanted to do. He originally pretended to be asleep, but now that the little female called his name, should he keep pretending?

Lin Yuan didn’t give Yue a chance to. He pinched Yue’s face again and raised his voice: “Yue, wake up!”

Yue had no choice but to open his eyes and sit up, pretending to be surprised. His voice was cold and hoarse: “Who are you?”

Lin Yuan put a finger to his lips and softly shushed: “My name is Lin Yuan, my nickname is Sui Sui. You can call me Sui Sui.”

These two names rolled around Yue’s tongue, but he didn’t say them out loud. 

Although there was some moonlight that filtered through the hut’s holes, he couldn’t see the little female clearly in the darkness. But he could see the faint outline of a long, fluffy tail, and strands of snow-white hair. 

Yue quickly lowered his eyes and asked lightly: “Why are you here?”

Lin Yuan had pestered 521 for over an hour to convince it to lend him a bottle of medicine on credit.

Yue couldn’t see what was in his hand, but he felt that it was very smooth. He paused and said slowly: “Understood.”

Lin Yuan felt that his husband in this world was very obedient and was quite happy on the inside. 

They sat together quietly for a while until Lin Yuan estimated it was time to go back. He smiled at Yue and said: “Well, I’ll head back to the cave now. I’ll come again when I have the chance.”

Yue didn’t say anything and watched the little female’s figure disappear, feeling a little dazed. 

He opened the bundle left by the little female and the aroma of roasted meat drifted out. Yue was never given any meat in the tribe, so the only times he had eaten it were when he secretly went hunting, but it was always raw.

When he arrived at the plaza, he saw the protagonist and Yue standing behind him. 

In this world, females were usually 1.7 meters to 1.9 meters tall, while males were over 2 meters tall. Yue stood behind a group of females, making him stand out like a sore thumb. 

Each slave had a slave mark painted with special paint on their forehead. Last night, Lin Yuan couldn’t really see it clearly, but now in broad daylight, Lin Yuan found the mark to be very annoying. It was because of this mark that his husband couldn’t eat meat ever since he was ten years old. 

Having been a slave for many years, Yue understood that he had to keep his head down. Slaves weren’t allowed to look ahead toward the distant horizon, and weren't allowed to look up at the blue sky. They could only look down at the ground, at the dirty mud beneath them.

Yue sensed someone’s gaze on him, and pretended to glance over inadvertently.

The morning sunlight was soft and warm, casting a gentle glow over the little female. Lin Yuan’s white, fluffy hair fluttered slightly in the wind, and two white cat ears peaked out.

His golden eyes shimmered like twinkling stars, and his white tail swayed slightly with excitement. 

Yue immediately recognized this was the little female from last night. His eyes swept over the little female’s hair, eyes, ears, and tail, and narrowed slightly. 

Would anyone in the tribe bully this little female?

Lin Yuan didn’t dare to say hello in case he was noticed by others, instead, he pressed his fingers to his lips and quickly blew a kiss towards Yue. 

Yue had no idea what this gesture meant, but his ears felt a little hot. 

After entering the forest, Lin Yuan asked 521 to scan the plants they came across. 

521 sulked in his heart that he had been reduced to a tool ball.

With 521’s help, Lin Yuan found a kind of grass that tasted like a mix between scallions and ginger. He also found peppers and some hemostatic herbs. In addition, his basket was full of tree fruit. 

All of this belonged to Lin Yuan personally and not the tribe, because he wasn’t on the gathering team today. 

During the evening, the tribe members gather around the fire for dinner.

As a female beastman, Lin Yuan had his own small cave dwelling. Inside, there were very few things, just a couple animal hides, a stone pot, and some small trinkets. 

In his cave, Lin Yuan poured a little bit of water into a stone bowl, crushed the scallion-ginger grass and peppers and mixed them together. Then he took his leftover pound of meat and massaged it with the seasoned water, kneading the meat for it to absorb the flavor.

When he roasted it, the meat that was soaked in seasoned water gave off a fragrant aroma. Lin Yuan ate his roasted meat, frowning with tears in his eyes. While the taste was no longer gamey, it was still pretty bad.

Just as he was struggling to chew, someone walked up to him and asked straightforwardly: “Hey, Yuan, how did you cook your meat?”

Lin Yuan looked up and saw that it was Yan. Yue stood behind him, holding a piece of meat that probably weight ten pounds. 

The teenager blinked and a sly glint flashed through his golden eyes. He gave Yan a bite to taste and said: “It was a bit troublesome to cook. It’s my first time making it, give me a piece of meat and I’ll try again.”

Yan didn’t overthink it and let Yue give Lin Yuan four to five pounds of meat. 

Lin Yuan cut the meat in half, and soaked a piece in the scallion-ginger water. When it was roasted, it had no fragrance at all. Lin Yuan said apologetically: “It failed this time. This piece of meat can’t be eaten, just give it to your slave. It’s not good to waste food.”
