Arc 4: Chapter 37

Everyone present felt that this decision was absolutely absurd, yet they couldn't do anything about it.

The leader of the Gale Team itched to silence his dirty-mouthed subordinate. Out of everyone, he managed to provoke Lin Yuan, this evil god. And this evil god even had a level seven powerhouse backing him.

At this time, the so-called evil god looked over with a shallow smile. His blue eyes made him feel an involuntary chill.

“Leader of the Gale Team, sorry for interrupting our conversation just now. Where were we? Oh, you said it was all a joke, and said that I was overreacting. Then, what do you want?”

The leader grimaced, he didn’t want to bow down and beg for mercy in front of all of the other bosses, but he also wanted to preserve his small life. He debated for one second.

The leader bowed 90 degrees and said humbly: “Mr. Lin, I apologize, I said the wrong thing. My subordinates were at fault.”

The corner’s of Lin Yuan’s lips curved slightly, and he said sarcastically: “After so much tossing and turning, I finally got an apology-- what an honor.”

The leader shot a look towards his subordinates behind him and then shouted: “Bring those idiots who can’t control their mouths over here! Apologize to Mr. Lin!”

The group of tied up, blood-stained power users were dragged over and knelt in front of Lin Yuan.

Lu Ye had long ago silently withdrawn his mental power from their bodies, and these people had been conscious the entire time. The perpetrator regretted until his intestines were knotted, if it wasn’t for his big mouth, how could he get roped into such a big mess?

A young man that was tied up next to him immediately cried out: “Mr. Lin, it’s him! He’s the one who insulted you! It’s all his fault!”

Suddenly it was as rowdy as a market, with people shirking responsibility and shifting blame left and right.

The right hand man of the Gale Team’s leader immediately went over and beat the perpetrator up, to the point where he vomited blood and fainted.

Lin Yuan looked on indifferently. He knew in his heart that the people from the Gale Team did not actually believe they did something wrong. If he were any weaker, he would’ve died long ago. This principle was something that he learned from being human, little by little over the years.

Lin Yuan noticed that the perpetrator was on his last breath. His eyes darkened and he said calmly: “Alright, I accept this apology. Consider this matter settled.”

Everyone looked over at Lin Yuan in surprise and almost couldn’t believe that Lin Yuan would be so nice.

But his next sentence let everyone know that he was still difficult to deal with.

“Leader of the Gale Team, I already said that I would exchange one person for crystal nuclei. Although your subordinates are ignorant and did something wrong, I’ve forgiven them. I heard that the Gale Team is the largest independent organization in the base, you guys wouldn’t give up your companions right?”

The leader of the Gale Team was about to cough up blood from anger. Lin Yuan made such a fuss, making them lose so much face, and he still wanted to take their crystals. The leader held his chest and asked: “How many crystal nuclei for one person?”

Lin Yuan thought for a moment and said: “One person, five T3 crystal nuclei.

There were 32 people in Lin Yuan’s hands, summing up to 160 T3 crystal nuclei.

Everyone’s gut reaction was that this was practically daylight robbery, but then thinking of how Lin Yuan had a bag full of T4 crystals and even a T5 crystal, this amount of T3 crystals were nowhere near as valuable.

The leader of the Gale Team was reluctant to spend so many crystals, but if he didn’t pay up, all of his previous efforts to gain Lin Yuan’s forgiveness would be wasted. And if the Gale Team was reputed for abandoning its members, then who would want to join their team in the future? He had no other choice.

Because he didn’t heed the staff and didn’t bring any crystal nuclei, he had to order people to go back to their team’s headquarters and bring it.

Half an hour later, Lin Yuan took over the bag of crystal nuclei and counted them one by one. After confirming the amount was correct, he put his own T4 and T5 crystals in the bag and gave it to Song Ting.

“These T3 crystals are a thank you gift to your team for welcoming us. You can use them however you’d like. Let whoever reaches level 4 be rewarded with a T4 crystal, and if you run out, can you ask me for more. You can use the T5 crystal yourself, Deputy Leader Song.”

Song Ting had assumed that after Lu Ye became the regiment leader, Lin Yuan would be the deputy leader. He hesitated for a moment and asked: “Why isn’t Mr. Lin the deputy leader?”

Lin Yuan thought that Song Ting’s idea didn't make any sense. He shook Lu Ye’s hand and said innocently: “My husband is the regiment leader, of course, I’m the regiment leader’s wife. Why would I demote myself to being deputy leader?”

Song Ting was silent, because he found that he couldn’t refute this logic! He stared at Lin Yuan’s clean and handsome face, feeling a sense of disbelief. In all his years, especially after the apocalypse, he had grown accustomed to the ash-like grays of the world. Yet in Lin Yuan, there seemed to be nothing but the stark extremes of black and white—pure, yet contradictory.

The regiment was stationed in the command center of Nan City’s military district, with its members living nearby. Compared to the luxurious villas of the independent organizations, it was much more down to earth.

On the way, Song Ting explained the current situation of the base’s power users. The regiment itself had less than 100 power users, while the independent organizations like the Gale Team had almost 500 members, plus a level 5 power user. Because of this disparity, they could act up in the base as they pleased.

Lin Yuan asked Song Ting: “What’s your level?”

He answered: “My fire power recently advanced to level 4.”

Lin Yuan thought for a moment: “How many T4 crystals do you need to advance to level 5?”

“Three or four probably?” Song Ting was unclear.

Lin Yuan nodded. He also used multiple crystals to advance. He took out another ten T4 crystals and handed them to Song Ting: “If there are other level 4 power users in the regiment, you guys should first advance to level 5. This way you can be more confident when maintaining order in the base. Lu Ye and I won’t intervene with how the regiment operates, you are still responsible for everything.”

Song Ting felt that Lin Yuan’s blue eyes were like the sparkling eyes of the god of wealth. He took the T4 crystals with trembling hands. Although he was thankful, he still voiced out his doubts: “Mr. Lin, why did you both decide to join the regiment? With your power, you can take over the entire Gale Team, so why join the regiment and even help us advance our powers?”

Lin Yuan subconsciously looked towards Lu Ye beside him. Under the setting sun, the young man’s features appeared even more striking. His dark hair left shadows on his pale skin and his lips were vividly bright. There was an innocent yet slightly vacant look in his gaze, giving off a sense of inorganic detachment—like a flawless, exquisitely crafted doll.

Lin Yuan asked proudly: “Lu Ye is very good looking, right?”

Song Ting choked at this randomness but he still nodded: “Yes, yes.”

Lin Yuan was satisfied with Song Ting’s answer and smiled, the two dimples on his cheeks deepend: “You may not know, but Lu Ye has always been outstanding. He was accepted by Ning University and was the top provincial scorer. His family was also rich, one of the most prestigious families in the city.”

“When the end of the world came, he didn’t immediately awaken his power.” Lin Yuan’s eyes darkened: “Lu Ye is so good, there are many people who are jealous of him. When one of these people awakened their power before him, what do you think happened?”

Song Ting was too familiar with the scene of power users trampling on ordinary people.

Lin Yuan sneered: “Those people were really full of themselves and tried to drive Lu Ye away without giving him a scrap of food. If that’s not bad enough, three months ago during the mission, who knew what they did to attract a horde of zombies. In the end, Lu Ye lost control of his ability and saved them, allowing them to escape without a scratch, but Lu Ye became like this.”

“Those people are all living comfortably now in the base. Tch, do they deserve it? I want them to live in Lu Ye’s shadow, so they don’t even have the right to be jealous of him.”
