Arc 4: Chapter 7
“President! It’s really you!” The girl who had jumped into Lu Ye’s arms had eyes full of joy.
Lu Ye was uncomfortable with her closeness and unhappily knitted his brows and was about to push the girl away from him, when the wolf next to him roared angrily.
“AWOO! AWOOO!” Get off of him! Let him go!
When the girl turned her head and saw the huge beast next to Lu Ye, her ecstasy turned into fear and she was so scared she drilled further into Lu Ye’s arms: “President, there’s a wolf!”
Lin Yuan was so angry his fangs were about to show and his roars turned even more threatening: “AWOO?! AWOOO!” You’re still hugging?! This is my husband, you get off of him!
Lu Ye was a little shocked by Lin Yuan’s anger and quickly came to his senses. He pushed the girl away from him and squatted in front of Lin Yuan.
Before he could say anything, a wet and hot tongue slided over his face. The wolf licked from his chin up to his lips, leaving a slobbering trace.
Lu Ye was stunned. Then a second lick came again.
This time Lu Ye quickly turned his head to the side and Lin Yuan only licked his neck.
“Lin Yuan…… don’t……”
Lu Ye wanted him to stop, but Lin Yuan was too angry to listen. Lin Yuan’s wolf nature made him eager to leave his mark on Lu Ye, and this instinctive possessiveness almost drove him crazy. He couldn’t stand the smell of others on Lu Ye’s body.
From the girl’s perspective, the huge beast was getting ready to eat Lu Ye. She grabbed her knife and approached the wolf quietly, ready to strike.
The moment she raised her knife, Lu Ye saw her and subconsciously hugged Lin Yuan and shielded him behind him, protecting Lin Yuan in his arms.
Lu Ye stared behind him coldly: “Wen Xin, what do you think you’re doing?”
The girl had never seen Lu Ye lose his composure like this before. The young man who always seemed gentle and clean was now glaring at her with anger and fierceness in his eyes, they were surging with gloominess and warnings.
Wen Xin was stunned in place and stammered: “President… I… I’m helping you…”
Lu Ye kept his eyes on the knife and unconsciously hugged Lin Yuan tighter. He said oppressively: “Did I ask for your help?”
Lin Yuan had gradually calmed down as he was held in the young man’s arms. Hearing this, he poked his head out and howled to Wen Xin: I’m not going to hurt my husband!
But this howl only scared Wen Xin more, and she took a step back: “...Pres…President……”
Lu Ye raised his hand and rubbed Lin Yuan’s head: “Be good, she doesn’t understand our situation. Don’t be angry.”
Lin Yuan bumped Lu Ye’s hand and aggrievedly whimpered: Husband, she wronged me…
Lu Ye quietly comforted Lin Yuan and continued to gently smooth the other’s fur. Under the flickering lights and dark shadows, the handsome young man seemed particularly gentle and warm.
He coaxed Lin Yuan for a while and then turned his head to address Wen Xin. His voice immediately returned to its usual coldness: “He’s not a wolf, he’s human. It’s his power that allows him to turn into a wolf.”
Wen Xin clearly saw how Lu Ye treated the wolf softly and gently but was cold to her, and jealousy and resentment in her burned like fire.
“Oh, so that’s how it is.” Wen Xin suppressed her jealousy and tried to squeeze out a smile: “Present, is he your friend?”
Lin Yuan cut in and howled: I’m not a friend, I’m his husband!
Although Wen Xin couldn’t understand, Lu Ye did. He chuckled and flicked Lin Yuan’s ear playfully. Then he told Wen Xin casually: “He’s my boyfriend, Lin Yuan.”
Future boyfriend, to be more accurate, Lu Ye thought in his heart. But in front of outsiders, he wanted to give Lin Yuan face.
When Lin Yuan heard Lu Ye call him his boyfriend, his tail shot up and wagged side to side vigorously.
Wen Xin had already had a hunch, but she still couldn’t accept it. Lu Ye was one of the most popular people in school and had many admirers, her included. But Lu Ye had never been close to anyone. He was easy-going and friendly on the surface to everyone, but he always stood there with an aura that no one could get close to, which only fueled the fascination of his secret admirers.
But when he became someone else’s exclusive person, the mentality of being his secret admirer was shaken.
Wen Xin stared at Lin Yuan with jealousy distorting her insides: “So this is the president’s boyfriend. How come I never knew the president already had a partner?”
Lu Ye’s eyes narrowed and his voice was cold: “This is my business. It’s normal that others don’t know.”
Others, this word clearly drew the line between them.
Wen Xin’s smile stiffened and she hurriedly changed the topic: “President, why are you here? There are lots of zombies outside, it’s very dangerous.”
“Came to find food. How many other people are here?”
Wen Xin answered: “45, we’ve been waiting for a rescue team.”
Lu Ye gave no reaction to this number. He said: “Take us to see them. You’ve been trapped here for too long, I can tell you what’s going on outside.”
Wen Xin nodded and led the way. Before Lu Ye followed, he whispered a few words into Lin Yuan’s ear.
When they met up with the other survivors, Lu Ye quickly explained Lin Yuan’s situation. Naturally, there were many people that didn’t believe him, so Lu Ye asked Lin Yuan to write some pinyin on the ground, which resolved everyone’s suspicions. After all, an animal writing pinyin was too unscientific.
Lu Ye and Lin Yuan walked around the supermarket on their own, and Lin Yuan secretly collected supplies, like portable gas stoves and utensils that other survivors didn’t care about, according to Lu Ye’s instructions. In the food section, many vegetables had already rotted. Lin Yuan endured their smell and picked some fruits and vegetables that were still edible. He also put multiple shelves of flour and rice in the storage ring.
While Lu Ye was talking to the rest of the survivors, Lin Yuan sneaked off to the snacks section and took a bag of potato chips and ran to Lu Ye to act coquettishly.
“Wuuu~” Husband~
Lu Ye paused his conversation and rubbed Lin Yuan’s head: “I’m still busy, I’ll feed you a bit later, okay?”
Lin Yuan nodded obediently and lay down, resting his head on Lu Ye’s leg.
Lu Ye was nearing the end of his conversation and said slowly: “The situation is like this, I don’t think a rescue team will appear, but this is my personal view. If you stay in the supermarket, there’s enough food and water to last for a few days, so maybe you can wait and see.”
The other survivors expressed they understood, and started discussing among themselves.
Lu Ye didn’t care about them anymore, and opened the bag of potato chips to feed Lin Yuan.
Lin Yuan chomped, chewed, and gulped and quickly finished a whole bag.
Lu Ye cleaned off the crumbs and announced to the rest of the survivors: “I’ll go get some food and then we’ll leave after.”
This was their deal, Lu Ye would exchange information for food. The survivors didn’t know that Lin Yuan had a storage ring, and only saw that Lu Ye was carrying a backpack and agreed straightforwardly.
Lu Ye packed his bag to the brim to put on a show for the survivors and then said goodbye and turned to leave.
Wen Xin followed him to the exit and couldn’t help asking: “President, can I go with you?”
As soon as Lin Yuan heard this, he was about to explode again.
Then Lu Ye defused his anger in the next second: “No, it’s hard enough for my boyfriend to protect me, there’s no reason for him to also take responsibility for you.”
Lin Yuan became nice in an instant and even giggled strangely. Lu Ye called him his boyfriend again, hehehe.
When they got outside of the supermarket, Lin Yuan wanted to take Lu Ye back to the apartment directly, but 521 came out and reminded him: “Senior, the zombie that bit your husband in the plot is in the store in front. Go take your husband over there.”
Instead, Lin Yuan bumped Lu Ye’s hand with his head and motioned them to go in the other direction.
Lu Ye scratched Lin Yuan’s chin and shook his head: “Lin Yuan, I want to go over there and take a look.”
Lin Yuan wanted to oppose it, but 521 shouted: “Senior, you can’t change what’s going to happen. Even if you don’t let him go today, what about tomorrow? This plot will happen sooner or later.”
“Awoo…” Lin Yuan was helpless. He licked Lu Ye’s hand: All right.
Maybe the rules of the world knew that Lin Yuan would protect Lu Ye, so they didn’t let Lu Ye sense the zombie until it had already bit Lu Ye’s arm. Lu Ye immediately reacted and killed the zombie with one blow.
He anxiously circled around Lu Ye and cried: Husband, are you okay? Does it hurt?
The tooth marks on Lu Ye’s arm were already festering with red and black, and sharp pain shot through his whole body.
When the end of the world first happened, Lu Ye had structured his mentality so that he was ready to die. But Lin Yuan, this wolf, this person, broke his defenses in such a tough and arrogant way, and showed him a road of hope.
Unfortunately now that hope was broken.
As Lu Ye’s vision darkened, he looked at the anxious Lin Yuan next to him. He was not afraid of death, but he felt some indescribable regret. He said weakly: “You won’t be able to pursue me anymore, sorry, Lin Yuan…”
