1. Overview

PDF Tools provides tools for reading, scanning, creating, merging, splitting, locking, unlocking, managing, and sharing PDF files.

PDF documents, images, scans, passwords, and generated files are processed locally on your device. We do not operate a document-storage server and do not upload or store the contents of your documents.

The App uses Google AdMob to display advertisements. The Google Mobile Ads SDK may automatically collect and share certain device, usage, diagnostic, and advertising-related information as described below.

2. Files and Information Processed Locally

When you use PDF Tools, the App may access or process:

- PDF files selected by you;

- Images and photos selected by you;

- Images captured using your device’s camera;

- File names, file sizes, page counts, creation dates, and other document metadata;

- Passwords entered by you to lock or unlock supported PDF files;

- App settings and preferences stored locally on your device.

This information is processed only as necessary to provide the features you request.

Your PDF files, images, scans, and passwords are not sent to us or to Google AdMob for advertising purposes.

3. Local File Storage

Documents created or edited with PDF Tools are stored locally on your device or in a storage location selected by you.

We do not receive, view, upload, or remotely store:

- The contents of your PDF files;

- Images selected for conversion;

- Scanned document images;

- Passwords used to lock or unlock PDF files;

- File names or document metadata associated with your local files.

Files remain on your device until you delete them. Uninstalling PDF Tools may not delete files that were exported or saved to shared or external device storage.

You are responsible for managing and backing up your local documents.

4. Device Permissions

Depending on your Android version and the features you use, PDF Tools may request the following permissions.

4.1 Camera

Camera access is used only when you choose to scan a paper document or capture an image.

PDF Tools does not use the camera in the background. Camera images are processed locally for document-scanning purposes.

4.2 Photos, Media, and Files

Access to photos, media, or files may be requested so that you can:

- Select images for conversion to PDF;

- Open PDF files stored on your device;

- Save generated or edited PDF files;

- Rename, organize, export, or share documents.

Where supported by Android, PDF Tools may use the Android system file picker or photo picker, allowing you to select specific files without granting access to your entire media library.

4.3 Notifications

If notification permission is requested and granted, PDF Tools may use notifications to inform you when a document-processing operation has been completed.

Notifications can be disabled through your device settings.

4.4 Permission Controls

You can deny or revoke permissions at any time through your Android device settings. Some features may not function correctly if a required permission is denied.

5. Advertising and Google AdMob

PDF Tools uses Google AdMob, provided by Google LLC, to display advertisements.

The Google Mobile Ads SDK may automatically collect and share the following categories of information:

- Your device’s IP address, which may be used to estimate its general location;

- Advertising identifiers, including the Android Advertising ID;

- App Set ID and other device or account-related identifiers where applicable;

- The name and version of the App;

- Device manufacturer, model, operating system, language, and screen characteristics;

PDF Tools does not use any third-party advertising provider other than Google AdMob.

6. Personalized and Non-Personalized Advertising

Depending on your location, consent choices, Google account settings, device settings, and applicable law, Google AdMob may display either personalized or non-personalized advertisements.

Personalized advertisements may be selected using information such as advertising identifiers, previous interactions, inferred interests, or general location.

Non-personalized advertisements are not selected using a personalized advertising profile, but they may still be based on contextual information, general location, App content, or recent interactions. Google may continue to process limited information for ad delivery, measurement, security, fraud prevention, and abuse detection.

You may control or limit personalized advertising by:

- Changing your Google Ads settings at https://adssettings.google.com/;

- Resetting or deleting the Advertising ID through your Android privacy settings;

- Selecting your advertising or privacy choices in the consent message presented by the App, where applicable;

- Reopening the App’s privacy options to review or withdraw a previous consent choice, where this option is required and available.

Disabling personalized advertising does not remove advertisements from PDF Tools.

7. Consent for Users in the EEA, United Kingdom, and Switzerland

Where required, users in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, and Switzerland will be shown a consent or privacy-choice message before advertising-related personal data is used for personalized advertising.

The message may allow users to:

9. Sharing and Exporting Files

11. Data Retention

11.1 Local Documents

PDF documents, images, scans, generated files, and document metadata processed locally remain on your device until you delete them.

You may delete this information using:

- PDF Tools;

- Your device’s file manager;

- Another compatible document-management app;

- Android storage settings.

Files saved to shared or external storage may need to be deleted separately after the App is uninstalled.

11.2 Local App Data

App preferences, temporary files, cached information, and locally stored consent choices may be removed by:

- Using deletion options available in the App;

- Clearing the App’s storage or cache through Android settings;

- Uninstalling PDF Tools.

11.3 Advertising Data

We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards designed to protect information processed through PDF Tools.

Documents are processed locally to reduce unnecessary transmission of their contents. Advertising information transmitted by the Google Mobile Ads SDK is encrypted in transit according to Google’s published documentation.

However, no device, storage system, or electronic transmission method can be guaranteed to be completely secure. You are responsible for:

- Protecting access to your device;

- Keeping secure backup copies of important documents;

- Avoiding the sharing of sensitive documents with unknown recipients;

- Using strong passwords when protecting PDF files;

- Keeping your Android operating system and the App updated.

PDF password protection does not guarantee that a document cannot be accessed through vulnerabilities or specialized recovery tools.
