The security hole provided by Ad hoc networking is not the Ad hoc network itself but the bridge it provides into other networks, usually in the corporate environment, and the unfortunate default settings in most versions of Microsoft Windows to have this feature turned on unless explicitly disabled. Thus the user may not even know they have an unsecured Ad hoc network in operation on their computer. If they are also using a wired or wireless infrastructure network at the same time, they are providing a bridge to the secured organizational network through the unsecured Ad hoc connection. Bridging is in two forms. A direct bridge, which requires the user actually configure a bridge between the two connections and is thus unlikely to be initiated unless explicitly desired, and an indirect bridge which is the shared resources on the user computer. The indirect bridge may expose private data that is shared from the user's computer to LAN connections, such as shared folders or private Network Attached Storage, making no distinction between authenticated or private connections and unauthenticated Ad-Hoc networks. This presents no threats not already familiar to open/public or unsecured wifi access points, but firewall rules may be circumvented in the case of poorly configured operating systems or local settings.[10]

I'm developping an app which may send sensitive data and I want to be sure that i don't send them on a public or weak protected network. That's why I'd like to get the current security used on wifi network on Android.

I found this post but I'm not sure of the accuracy of the solution.Indeed, the allowedKeyManagement method seems to return the supported protocols, but it's not explicitely said to return the current active protocol beeing used.Is there a sure way to get the effective protection used on the cirrent wifi network ?

Hi there I just purchased my first Ring indoor house cam now the house I wish to set it up in has no wifi so my question is can I set up camera in my own house where I have wifi and then place the camera in the house I need to monitor?

Hi @user50195. Ring Security Cameras require a consistent, stable wifi connection. The Camera cannot be used in a home with no internet connection, as the Camera cannot function without an internet connection.

If you own devices that can support WPA3 and have old devices that will not function with the transitional mixed-mode security setting, yes you will need to setup multiple wireless networks. If that is your scenario, I would completely skip using the transitional mixed-mode and configure (at least) two different wireless networks (SSIDs). One would be secured with WPA2 and the other would use WPA3. A single wifi router or access point can have this ability.

I have been using my Office Jet Pro 8035 wirelessly for about two months. A few days ago it stopped connecting to the wifi. The home wifi comes up as an option to connect to, but when I try to select it, it says security: no encryption, so I cannot enter the password. I am able to print with HP wifi Direct, but it is only a short term solution, as it will be an issue with my instant ink subscription. I have tried resetting the network settings, but either they didn't reset (I'm not sure how to check) or for some other reason, it didn't work. I still got the "security: no encryption" when I attempted to use the set up wizard.

I am attempting to reconnect the printer to our home wifi, not a public network. I have completed the steps in the article that you linked, and it still will not connect. In the part of the set up where I would usually enter the wifi network password, it says security no encryption. Up until last week, it had been working perfectly, so I don't know what changed. I printed the wireless network test results. It says MAC address filtering may be enabled on the wireless router. I do not know how to check this (the router is a lease from Mediacom) and I haven't changed anything.

This is the most useless app i have paid for. im sitting at my desk with an ipad and iphone side by side both connected to the same wifi connection. my ipad shows the system on and working and the iphone despite showing full singnal strength tells my i have no internet connection. same problem for my partners units. its so bad i will have to connect by any means other then wifi. what a waste of money!!!!

A spokesperson from Ring sent a statement saying, "Like any wifi-enabled device, WiFi signal interference may affect Ring device performance. If customers are experiencing issues with connectivity, we encourage them to reach out to Ring Customer Support."

Problem

I have an Arris modem-router that provides wifi connections through both a 2.4GHz connection and a 5Ghz connection. According to the router settings (accessed by navigating my browser to the ip address and logging in), both wireless networks have security mode WPA2-PSK (AES), with a pre-shared key I chose. However, according to my laptop, android phone, and ipad, the 5GHz network security is "open", "none", no padlock symbol, etc., while the 2.4GHz wireless network simply does not appear at all. I'm not particularly worried about the missing 2.4GHz network, I mostly want to ensure that my 5GHz network is secure. I just noticed this problem this morning. I've been using this modem-router for more than a year, and in the past I could not connect to the wireless networks without the correct pre-shared key.

Here we merely manipulate nmcli with -t flag to give us only the name of wifi Access Point without the pretty header, and use it in parameter substitution brackets$( . . .) and give it as an input to nmcli con list id to list data about that Access Point. Finally, awk just filters out the necessary line.

If you have wifi connection established but also Ethernet connected, nmcli -f NAME con status will output multiple lines. I suggest filtering out wifi from that list, with nmcli -f NAME,DEVICES con status | awk '/wlan0/ {print $1}'. The rest of the processing would be the same as above.

2. I don't know if this is happening with other wifi networks, as this is the only one I use (besides using data on my phone). Though it should be noted that I always use a VPN, and I was using one at the time I received the security warning.

I'd appreciate any further advise! Should we change our network and router passwords again? Do you recommend we take other steps to secure the wifi network? (For example, I googled articles about securing wifi, and I see that there are things we haven't tried yet - such as updating the router firmware/software.) 2351a5e196
