It was the first hermitage to be built in the town in 1574. It was a single nave and inside there was only one painting representing San Ginés. As the hermitage was located near the coast, flooding was very common due to the rising tide, for this reason it was moved 25 metres inland.
The construction of this hermitage began in 1665. The ground plan of the church is square. Inside, the temple is divided into three naves separated by semi-circular arches on Tuscan columns. The clearly Mudejar-inspired roof is made of wood. The façade has neoclassical lines, and the semi-circular pediment is noteworthy.
In 1798, it was catalogued as a parish, and in 1800, the central nave had to be extended. Later, in 1804 the Rosario nave was built. Furthermore, in 1814 the pulpit was constructed. In 1826, the episcopal nave was built. Finally, the tower was erected in 1842.
