The magnificent painting of the Souls was displayed in the San Ginés Church in 1819. It was painted in Tenerife by Luis de la Cruz y Ríos, a famous miniaturist, and a painter for King Ferdinand VII.
In the upper part, you can see the image of the Holy Trinity and all the saints who have attained perfection.
On the right-hand side of the painting is Saint Paul who has a sword behind his cloak.
Next, we see an evangelist who is carrying a quill with him.
Thirdly, we see Saint Joseph, who is carrying a lily, a symbol of chastity, with him.
Below, wearing the red cloak is Saint Michael, holding a scale.
On the left-hand side of the painting, we find Saint John the Evangelist, who is wearing a green tunic and who is next to the eagle, the Virgin and Saint Peter, who is carrying the keys beneath his brown tunic.
Below these individuals, we see a blindfolded woman holding a holy chalice, representing Faith.
Finally, we find the Virtue of Charity, who is represented as a symbol that takes those who are in purgatory to heaven.
