Patrick Walsh was born to a father of naval officers and a mother of schoolteachers in San Diego, CA. When he was two, his family moved to New England, and he grew up in Boston, MA. After a back injury ended his athletic career, he transferred to Boston College, graduating with honors in Accounting.

Before founding PW Partners, he was a partner at a value-oriented hedge fund based in Chicago.
